Seeing Michael Pearce has recently died I thought it would be good to make him author of the month for October. I have several of his books but have not read them. I am leaving for a vacation to South Dakota on Friday so I wanted to get this posted early.

Helen (helenfrominyocounty) | 235 comments I hope you enjoy it, Sandy. The books detail the microcosm that was British society in the Egypt of the time, the "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" element sometime evident, albeit reluctantly occasionally, but being a policeman, needs must. I read all of them and enjoyed every one. Very sorry we won't see any more.

I tried to read The Mamur Zapt and the Return of the Carpet

Just couldn't get into it. Basicly, I think it just kept circling around the same incedent and didn't move forward. It is a book that could benefit from a glossary of Egyptian terms. I read 55 pages and gave up on it.

I never really got into it either, although I did finish it.

Sandy | 1632 comments I read The Mamur Zapt and the Donkey-vous and liked it. I found it a fun entry in the series with the strawberry seller's method of "freshening" his fruit and Owen getting caught flirting. There is less politics in this book so I found it a more straight forward mystery. The donkey boys, dragomen and Shepard's Hotel all reminded me of the Amelia Peabody series.
