This is a picture book I used to own, my aunt gave it to us in the 80s. It's about a girl who ran away and built a tree house/palace in the woods with a water slide and multiple stories and animals came to live with her. I think she was a redhead if I remember correctly. At the end she goes home to her family.

no, not either of those. The cover was a brown border with the tree house and slide on it. I think maybe the girl too, going down the slide
There's also a list for Tree Houses, but at the moment there's not much on it.When in the '80s did you read it? Could it have been as late as '89?

it was definitely a girl. the illustrations were all in color. it might've been as late as 92 but I'm nearly positive it was the 80s

thank you but it's not any of those. What little I can remember of the cover was it had a brown or burgundy border and then an illustration of the tree house with slides and things and the girl had red or reddish brown hair. it was definitely a picture book, not an easy reader or an I can read type of chapter book.
If she built it herself there's a chance it could be on the Kid Builds House/Structure, Engineering & Architecture for Kids, but I'll keep searching too.
