Team Challenge
September 1, 2022- November 30, 2022

Please take some time and choose a team name. Let me know once you have decided on one.

Team
✔️Lauri
✔️Carrie
✔️Zuza

Team Spreadsheet
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Scoreboard
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Rules
🧛Each monster has specific chains that need to be completed.
Examples:
1. Create a chain of 3 using titles consecutively (ABC)
-All the Light We Cannot See
-Becoming Mrs. Lewis
-Catching Fire
2. Create a chain of 3 with "dog" in the titles
-Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike
-The Dog Stars
-Hot Dog Girl

🧛One person should NOT complete a whole chain by themselves. This is a team challenge.
🧛You may choose which creature to capture first but you MUST complete it BEFORE starting a new creature.
🧛You may use or drop articles: A, An, The
🧛If you somehow manage to incorporate a Formal Buddy Read book into a chain, you will earn 2 bonus points. See the buddy read folder for the current book. They are also listed in the spreadsheet dropdown list (when your team has a thread & spreadsheet assigned to them).
🧛Standard Rules Apply

Scoring
You will get 3 points for every completed book (9 per completed chain) PLUS page points.

While you wait for the game to start... here's a jigsaw puzzle related to the challenge: https://www.jigsawplanet.com/?rc=play...

Zuza | 143 comments I am here, so excited to start.

message 4: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1141 comments Here as well! This looks like fun!

message 5: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 143 comments Any ideas for the team name? I did some googeling and like these horrors of Halloween; boo from the crew; chills and thrills; mischief and mayhem; wicked witches; something wicked; tickled to my bones

And what monster are we going to start with? I would start with the middle monster - witch.

message 6: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1141 comments I like Something Wicked best.

I have no preference which monster we start with 😊

message 7: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 222 comments Hello! Can’t wait to get started! Something Wicked sounds good to me…
Shall we go with witch to begin? I can’t resist witchy books. (Or vampires, or werewolves…)

message 8: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 222 comments I have Akata Witch ready to roll if we’re starting there. Lemme know!

I will ask for help with the spreadsheet. Hope that’s okay. I do everything on an iPad & just can’t make it work for me. I can view the spreadsheet, but can’t manipulate it.

message 9: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 143 comments Great Something Wicked it is then.

yes I vote for witch :) not that I picked a book for that yet :D

No problem, I can help with the spreadsheet.

message 10: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1141 comments Witch sounds great to me as well!

Loving our team name :)

message 11: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 222 comments You guys are GREAT! Where is everybody from? What genres are your favorites??

message 12: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1141 comments I’m from Pennsylvania. Around the Pittsburgh area.

I’ll read just about anything but my favorite genres are mystery, thrillers, horror and Nordic Noir.

I’ve started reading The Manningtree Witches for our first task.

Favorite books of all time?
Preferred reading method? - I prefer physical books but use my kindle at bedtime!

message 13: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 222 comments I'm from Hawaii (Oahu) -- born & raised. OCD about reading & books. I prefer real paper & ink books. I don't like to read online much since I use a computer all day, BUT I have been using my tablet at night because my eyes are getting bad!
My favorite genres are historical fiction, paranormal, cozy mysteries, humor & chick lit.
Feel free to check out my 5-Star Reads shelf for all my most favorite books. If I had to pick one favorite author, it would be Isabel Allende.

Small world Donna! Born and raised around here but my husband was military so we’ve been everywhere from TN, to Italy for 3 years to Alamogordo NM. Returned back to good ole PA though!

message 16: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 143 comments I am from Czechia, currently living near Prague.

My favourite genre would probably be YA science fiction, but if the synopsis sounds good enough I will try about anything.

I wil probably start with A Discovery of Witches hopefully I will survive it since I have heard it's very desriptive. We will see.

I dont think I have an all time favourite book. I have read so many great books, it's hard to chose just one.

Lately I have been into audiobooks, when I am physically reading a book I can't seem to focus much.

Oh Zuza, I loved A Discovery of Witches! Very intriguing and romantic. I still have to read the 3rd book. I’ve always wanted to visit Prague! So beautiful! Actually I hope to make it to Europe before I die…

message 18: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 222 comments I’m currently reading several series & can do a #1, 2 OR 3! Let me know which works best for you & I can use any one of mine! The Spooky title is proving to be a little difficult. I may just read Plum Spooky again….

Plum Spooky (Stephanie Plum, #14.5) by Janet Evanovich

message 19: by Zuza (last edited Sep 02, 2022 09:43AM) (new)

Zuza | 143 comments I am sure you will 🙂. The sights are really beautiful.

I think I can find books 1, 2 or 3. If I would pick I would take the book 2, but dont really mind which one.

And I dont think it will be the only. I couldn't find anything normal for zombie, mummy (actualy can we use a book where mummy in the title means "mother"), vampire (already have read Empire of the Vampire) and spider on the cover (I can't look for that 🙈)

message 20: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 143 comments I have finished Only a Monster, should we use it for leg 1 or leg 2?

message 21: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 222 comments I don’t think it matters, Zuza. What series number is it? That might be easier than 1st letter. Then we'd need to read titles for N&P, P&Q, or M&N…

message 22: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 143 comments It's first in series

message 23: by Lauri (last edited Sep 04, 2022 10:32PM) (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 222 comments Actually, I have a Q book ready to go! It’s The Queen's Gambit. I also just finished Night Myst today. If we did the title chain, it would still Carrie with a P title. It’s also 1st in series….

That would leave Carrie having to read a book title beginning with P. What do you think, Carrie? Let us know either way.

message 24: by Carrie (last edited Sep 05, 2022 05:24AM) (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1141 comments I can read a book with P title no problem.

I will be finishing The Manningtree Witches today.

Hi team! I have a question for you. I am getting questions about finishing early and redoing tasks for higher points. Would you like an opportunity for a bonus monster instead? The bonus monster would have a couple of extra books required because it is a higher difficulty monster to chain. Thoughts? I want input from all the teams before I go forward with offering the bonus.

message 26: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1141 comments I like the idea of the bonus monster rather than repeating for higher points!

message 27: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 143 comments Agree, I would rather have a bonus monster or two 😁.

message 28: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1141 comments I placed The Manningtree Witches on the spreadsheet for Arm 1 of the witch.

message 29: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1141 comments I need to look a bot for my spooky book and P book.

Did we decide on numbers for the series task?

message 30: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 143 comments I don't think we did, but 1 to 3 will be the easiest to find.

I am like half way through my witchy book. Hopefully be done by weekend.

message 31: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1141 comments I’m going to read Six of Crows which is the first book in a duology. It’ll count as #1, correct? Unless someone else is already working on 1 in a series.

message 32: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 143 comments it's fine with me. i am almost done with book that is #2 in series

Lauri, can you read book that is #3 in series?

message 33: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 222 comments Got any & all covered! AND my Spooky book is in at the library...

Which monster shall we tackle next? So I can plan ahead.....

message 34: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1141 comments I vote for Frankenstein!

message 35: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 143 comments Carrie wrote: "I vote for Frankenstein!"

Me too

message 36: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 143 comments Finished The Vanishing Throne for Witch Leg 1 - #2 in series

message 37: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 222 comments Frankenstein it is, ladies!

I’m almost finished with my Witchy book! For #3 in series I’ll either read Vision in Silver or Darling Dahlias and the Confederate Rose - - whichever I finish 1st!

Vision in Silver (The Others, #3) by Anne Bishop Darling Dahlias and the Confederate Rose (Darling Dahlias #3) by Susan Wittig Albert

How’s everybody doing?

message 40: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 222 comments Thank you, Carrie! I'm working on my series #3 book and my Q book. Going to pick up my spooky book from the library this afternoon!

So I will have
The Darling Dahlias and the Confederate Rose by Susan Wittig Albert The Queen's Gambit by Walter Tevis Spookygirl Paranormal Investigator by Jill Baguchinsky

Yee-haa!

message 41: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 222 comments Thinking ahead for Frankenstein Arm One, I currently have books with these words in the titles: blood, woman, angels, heart, daughter, ghost, library (3!), prince, death & girl…

Do any of these work for us as a team? Lemme know!

message 42: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 143 comments Hi, I am like 9% from the end of A Discovery of Witches that book is long 🙈. I will be done with it soon.

The spooky book proves difficult to find, still searching for one. But Lauri your pick for spooky book looks interesting.

I vote for death as a word in title, it's perfect for Halloween 👌.

message 43: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1141 comments Are you enjoying A Discovery of Witches? I read it a long time ago and it was not one of my favorites but most people seem to really love it!

My spooky book was pretty short unfortunately so it was only worth 1 point...

Death works for me. There are a ton of books that have that word in the title!

message 44: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 222 comments Death it shall be!

BTW, I am quite enjoying ALL my picks & should be finished in the next couple of days….

This is fun!

message 45: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 143 comments Yay I finished A Discovery of Witches. The first half was good then I started to loose interest and probably mised a lot of important things hapenning. I gave it 3🌟.

Now I am onto the spooky bok, will be reading Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife - non fiction counts too right?

message 46: by Carrie (last edited Sep 15, 2022 07:52AM) (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1141 comments That's how I felt with A Discovery of Witches as well.

Non fiction counts - sounds like an interesting book.

I'mm enjoying my books as well. I will be finishing my "P" book tonight - I'm reading The Prisoner. It started slow but then really picked up.

I think this is a pretty fun challenge as well!

message 47: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 143 comments Finished my spook book and updated the tracking sheet.
