Phire jumped slightly, normally the teacher was out of the class roaming the halls before they came in. She flashed her a smile, "Good morning Ms. Thuy."

Thuy gave a light chuckle. "Did I startle you? Sorry if I did" she said. Although she chuckled, her tone was genuine. She didn't want to hurt or scare her students in any way. "How are you today?" She opened the drawer of her desk, putting some papers away and closing it again.
She nodded, a bit embarrassed. "I was expecting you is all." She thought about that question, "I'm doing alright, what are we doing for class today?"
"Well, that's good to hear" Thuy said with a smile. She pasued, thinking for a moment. "Today, we're going to learn how to interact with humans without using ours. So basically, how to talk to them without arousing suspicion. It can be hard, but it's important to know since almost everyone outside of the school is human."
She cocked her head, "Is that even possible for those of us with....... odd features? By that I mean those of us with animal parts or mythical species."
Thuy nodded her head. "Of course it is" she said in a reassuring tone. "That's the most difficult part, though, hiding a tail or ears for example. But once a student practices their shapeshifting skils, it gets much easier to appear completely human." She smiled again. "And that's why I'm here to help you and the other students."
She nodded, slowly processing what was said. "And what if we shapeshift when nervous or feeling strong emotions?" she tried to act like that question didn't involve her, but she was obviously hoping for an answer
Thuy thought for a moment, considering Phire's question. Once she carefully thought of an answer, she spoke. "The most important thing to remember is to stay calm. If your emotions influence your shapeshifting abilities, then you need to do things that help you relax. So if you like walking or listening to music for example, than that should help you relax and be more calm" she said.
Thuy smiled. "Again, you don't have to do those things if you don't want to. Those were just examples. Just do what you think will best help you relax" she said. "Believe me, I was like that, too. I struggled controlling my powers at first. But I managed to keep them under control by doing just that."
"If you need any more help or want to ask more questions, feel free to come to me" Thuy said. She watched as Phire scribbled something in her notebook. She didn't ask about it though, afraid it might be something personal. She took another sip of her coffee before writing reminders to herself about her classes for the day.
She nodded and continued to write, it seemed like she was writing down notes from what she had just said. Although Thuy couldn't tell

Thuy stood up from her desk, walking over to the board at the front of the classroom. She grabbed a dry-erase marker, and began to write on the board. How to control your powers around humans. She put the cap back on the marker, then went back to her desk, leaning in her chair.
Phire was a bit cold but shrugged it off, it was winter after all. She watched Thuy closely, eager to learn
Thuy began typing on her computer, planning out the rest of her classes for the day. She watched a few more students enter the classroom, then shifted her gaze back to Phire. "Since you were the first one to arrive, would you like to demonstrate today's lesson, Phire?" she asked her.
"Just pretend that one of your classmates is human, and show the rest of the class how you would interact with them" Thuy replied. She scanned the room, seeing if there were students willing to volunteer with Phire. "Would someone like to come up and help Phire?"
Phire looked thoughtful, trying to think of what she'd do. She closed her eyes and focused on keeping her emotions in check and suddenly she looked like any other human being.
Thuy smiled as she watched Phire carefully. "Great job, Phire. Now just remain calm" she said. She sighed as no one wanted to volunteer. "Well, if no one wants to go up to the front of the classroom, then I will." She got up from her desk, walking to the front and stood next to Phire.
Phire was focusing on staying calm, taking deep breaths. She put on a fake smile and looked at Thuy. "Hello!" she said, holding out her hand
Thuy smiled back. "Hello" she said, grabbing Phire's hand and shaking it. She paused, thinking of what questions she could ask. After a moment, she spoke again. "It's nice to meet you. I'm Thuy. What's your name?" she asked politely.
Phire's concentration slipped for a second and Thuy could just barely catch a glimpse of a feather before she got it back under control. "Some people call me Phire." she replied, smiling placidly
Thuy's gaze caught sight of Phire's feather for a split second. Once she noticed it was gone, she nodded her head in approval. "Good job" she whispered so the rest of the class couldn't hear her. She gave another smile. "It's nice to meet you, Phire." She looked around the room, noticing that a few of the students were taking notes, glad that they were paying attention.
Phire smiled truly this time, taking the praise happily. "Where are you from?" She asked, thinking it's something humans say to each other.
"I'm from Vietnam" Thuy replied. "Where are you from?" She took notes in her head as the conversation continued based on Phire's performance so far. She thought that she was doing a great job so far remaining calm and keeping her abilities under check.
"I'd say the States," she said, smiling. "I'm actually not too sure." that was a carefully crafted lie she had had prepared. It was nearly flawless and very believable, except for the telltale sign of her left eye twitching slightly when she said it.
Thuy saw Phire's eye twitch, but she ignored it. She figured that she was just a little nervous about the conversation. She smiled at her response. "That's nice." She paused, thinking of something else she could ask. "What do you like to do for fun?" A basic question, but she figured she would ask.
She shrugged, "It really depends. I like reading, sometimes writing, doing puzzles." she paused, thinking, "I'm not really sure what else."
Thuy nodded. "Very good" she said. She paused for a moment. "I like reading and writing too. I also like draw and occasionally do some yoga. I find that it helps me relax a lot when I'm stressed." She decided to change the subject again. "Do you have any pets?"
She smiled softly, "I guess you could say that." she said, "I have this parrot, and she almost looks like she's on fire all the time. But I think it's just the color of her wings and the way the shadows play on her." Phire gave a slight wink at Thuy, showing that she was indirectly saying that phoenixes were real
Thuy gave a light chuckle at Phire's response. "On fire all the time? That's a very interesting way to describe your parrot. But you're probably right. It's probably just the way the light and shadows reflect on her feathers" she said. She subtly winked back, playing along with her student.
Thuy shook her head. "No" she replied simply. She paused, thinking for a moment. "Not anymore, at least. Although I used to have a dog when I was little back home. But that was a long time ago. I haven't had a pet since. I've always wanted a another pet someday, though."
She nodded, "Pets are a lot of work, but I think it's worth it." She paused, thinking of her next question
Thuy smiled. "That's very true" she said. She thought carefully about which question she should ask next. "Do you have any siblings?" This question was definitely one of the most common questions that humans asked and were probably the most interested in.
Thanks!))Phire thought about it, "I'm not sure. I didn't really know my parents very well." She shrugged nonchalantly and quickly masked the pain showing in her eyes
((You're welcome!))
Thuy frowned at Phire's response. "I'm sorry" she said. Okay, maybe that wasn't the best question to ask, then. She wasn't sure how else to respond to that. She quickly changed the subject. "Do you enjoy school? What's your favorite subject?"
Thuy frowned at Phire's response. "I'm sorry" she said. Okay, maybe that wasn't the best question to ask, then. She wasn't sure how else to respond to that. She quickly changed the subject. "Do you enjoy school? What's your favorite subject?"
"School is school," she joked, grateful that Thuy changed the subject, "I'm not sure there is a single person who enjoys school. But for me it's alright," she shrugged, "I rather like the powe-" she quickly rephrased, remembering that Thuy was supposed to be a human, "I meant art class." she said sheepishly
Thuy gave a small smile. "I enjoy school. But I agree that not everyone likes it" she said. She listened as Phire answered. She sighed with relief to herself when she quickly corrected herself. "Really? I like art too. It was my favorite subject while I was in school as well." She smiled again as she spoke.
Thuy gave a slight chuckle. "Don't worry. You don't have to be good at drawing to like it" she said. She nodded her head, giving a smile. "Yes I do. I like reading and drawing. I also like yoga. I enjoy it and it helps me relax. Do you have any hobbies?"
"Whittling or crocheting. Although, to be completely honest, I'm not that good at either." she laughed
Thuy gave a small smile. "That's alright. You don't have to be good at everything" she said with a chuckle. "I used to crochet a little bit when I was younger. My mother tried to teach me since she knew how to, but it didn't turn out well. I'm not very good at it either."
Thuy laughed, giving a grin afterwards. "I guess that's true" she said. She paused for a moment, thinking of what else she could say to keep the conversation going. "Well, it was meeting you, Phire. I do hope that we'll get to see each other again soon." She winked, knowing full well that was obviously true.
Thuy smiled, clasping her hands to indicate that the conversation was over. "Thank you, Phire. You may return to your seat now" she said. She turned to face the rest of the class. "As you saw, Phire did an excellent job demonstrating how to talk to humans. Just remain calm and you'll be fine."
