Task: Option 1 ➺ 5. Monochrome
Book:

Date Read: 11/12
Rating: 4 stars
How it fits: Black and white cover
Review: I'm really enjoying this series. There's plenty of steam, but not over the top, there's lots of drama, and lots of relationships being strengthened. Overall, I can't wait to see what's next in store for Mercy and her guys!

Week #9 - Option #1

Spooky Business by S.E. Harmon
Pages: 317/GR
How it Qualifies: black and gray cover
Finished: 11/14
Rating: ★★★★★
Review: I am loving this series! Great writing and great narration. So far the whole series has been in Rain's POV but I would've mind being in Danny's head for a bit. This book actually had me tearing up. I didn't expect to get so far in my emotions but the author managed to get me there. Plus that ending! I definitely need to jump into the next book asap

Option 1 ➺ 13. Clear cut - Read a stand alone book.
Book: Protecting Their Princess
Date Read: 11/16
Rating: 3 stars
How it fits: Stand alone
Review: This book was steamy, and that's pretty much all it was. There wasn't much to the story other than that, and the characters were relatively flat.

As always, let me know if I missed your post.
Remember with this last week, it will go fast as teams try to 'win' - by being the first to have all books from all weeks completed including this final week. Usually that happens on Saturday (sometimes Sunday). My advice is to try and finish outstanding Week 10 and be prepared to find a shorter book for the Week 11 call.
I join this challenge because it's fun for me - If we're in a position to win, yeah. If not, it's still fun so there's no pressure for anyone to finish reading quickly. Unless as a team we decided that's what we want :-)

I’m on a road trip, and that affects my reading. But I’ll do my best when we do get the task.

Week #10 - Option #1

Week #10 - Option #1

Orange Is the New Black by Piper Kerman
Pages: 322/GR
How it Qualifies: standalone
Finished: 11/17
Rating: ★★
Review: I buddy read this with my oldest daughter. I gotta say, I was a little disappointed. As a fan of the show this book was nothing like it. I found it a bit boring actually. Piper wasn't even reunited with her ex turned snitch until the last hour of the book. I'm not sure what exactly I was expecting but this was not it.

Week 10 - Selection post
Week 10 - Completion post
JL

Update about completing this week's (Week 11) tasks. Because the teams are uneven, teams only need to have 4 books completed to be able to say the task is completed. We have 7 team members, so that is a nice bonus for us. I think we all still need to choose a book and make a selection post but to 'win', only 4 of us need to post a completion.
Also, if you decide to use Option 2, you will pick a book from a player's shelf from a different team that Jane will designate when she posts the task.
Lastly, Jane says she will be posting the task around 3pm US Eastern time. I will be at an appt at that time, so won't be able to post here until later, but feel free to add your selections as soon as you see it and have chosen something.
Good luck and Good reading this last week!!

Week #: 10

Rating: ★★★★
Page numbers: 320
How the book qualifies: Standalone book
Review:
I was not sure what to expect of this young adult book but I liked it, though it was quite sad. All the characters were likable, apart from the abusive father. And I really liked the big twist at the end. Didn't see that coming.

Call: 13. Clear cut ©
Task: Read a stand alone book
Book: Hero of her Heart
Pages: 310 pp (GR kindle, linked edition)
How it fits: standalone
Date Read: 11.18 ★★★
Review:
Just ho-hum. Not a bad book but very predictable romance. Childhood friends who are parted for years and when the female returns home, she has turned swan from ugly duckling. The male MC swears he will never marry but he can't help but fall for his old friend. Big misunderstanding, tears, break-up, big gesture and HEA. Nothing exciting happening here...

Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ #7 on PBS's Best American literature, and written in 1952, follows the precious life of a runt piglet, his spider best friend and a young quickly maturing girl. I am struck with how children's stories, like Grimm fairy tales, often are very dark. While not as cruel as stewing children, death and loss are pronounced themes in this children's lassic.

Book:

Pgs: 291
How if Fits: Standalone
Stars: 3
Review: That's a spicy book. Unfortunately, I need more story. Don't get me wrong I love a good sexy book and Baily, Finn and Walker have an overabundance of sexiness. But there was no character development no relationship development outside of the house. I would have loved this more if the characters would have taken just a little break from their naked acrobatics and went on dates, shared more of their lives not just bodily fluids.
