MargieD2017 | 331 comments Code Name: Lise: The True Story of the Woman Who Became WWII's Most Highly Decorated Spy by Larry Loftis is a true story of an heroic woman who left country and family to follow in the footsteps of her father and entered her occupied home country, France, during WWII as a spy in Special Operation Executive Program (SOE - a British spy organization).

Larry Loftis is a journalist and presents the material leveraging his writing skills supported with documents and interviews. Dialogue is introduced to support the characters where it is largely taken from written transcripts of inerviews with some license to make it more conversational.

The challenges were incredible. Her absolute unmoving commitment to her colleagues and their safety put her own life on the line as she refused to betray them through any degree of torture that was inflicted upon her. She indured physical mutulations during her interrogations, mental and physical deprivation of starvation and isolation and emotional distress of being offered dinner in the finest restaurants, a shower and clean clothing etc. with unrelenting defiance.

The mental fortitude of Odette Sansom Churchill (Code Name: Lise) is more than admirable it is unquestionably worthy of the recognition that was bestowed upon her by the French and British ruling bodies. Larry Fortis does share the debates that arose post the awards that shadowed her for many years. It is no surprise, I guess, that there are those that would argue giving food to the starving is unmerited though I can't imagine what more an individual would need to do than was verifiably done by Odette Sanson Churchill to be the recipient of the highest awards a government can bestow.
