Romance between two chronically ill people where one is a racecar driver and dies in the end

Okay so I remember reading this book on a roadtrip when I was like 13 (so like over a decade ago) and I have never been able to find it since.

Basically it is about this girl and a guy who are both chronically ill falling in love and he teaches her how to appreciate life. He is a race car driver which is super dangerous given his condition. Blah Blah Blah they get engaged and she goes to one of his races when all of a sudden he crashes his car. Obviously given his condition, it is much more serious than it seems with the smoke inhalation. It doesn't seem like he is going to make it through the night so they get married in the hospital and he dies soon after.

I believe there is also a sequel where she moves away and teaches some other guy to find love before dying due to her disease as well.

Please help me find this book. It has been bugging me for years!!
