Joanna (walker) | 2278 comments For the Lifetime Achievement awards, those count as the year the author won them for date purposes and we can read any book by that author?

Also, can we use 2023 as a year since the St. Louis Literary Award has already announced the 2023 recipient?

Yes to both questions. I even proffer for the 2nd option of ten 10-year time spans that the last one could be as extended as, for example, 2021-2030.

Mary | 1398 comments This sounds like fun

Can I confirm that for translation prizes, that the relevant date is the date of original publication not the date of the translation

See French American Translation Prize for Fiction 2002
The Toilers of the Sea by Victor Hugo

Originally published in 1866. Would this count as 1866 or 2002?

The relevant date is the date of the award. (and for your example, is 2001 is displayed on. the GR book page; not sure why)

Coralie | 2752 comments Am I correct in thinking that I can't use Under the Udala Trees for this challenge as it doesn't have a lexile?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14224 comments Coralie wrote: "Am I correct in thinking that I can't use Under the Udala Trees for this challenge as it doesn't have a lexile?"

That title is grandfathered in, so you may read it for EoTP. (It may have been claimed before BPL was shelving it as YA Assignment.)

Coralie | 2752 comments Thank you. That will save me a bit of shuffling around.

or 2022

Thanks, Kathleen. That will be my project for today.

These have been updated to include 2021 and 2022.

Please let me know if there are other awards that need updating on Goodreads.

message 14: by Deedee (last edited Aug 21, 2022 11:48AM) (new)

Deedee | 2279 comments A few days ago there was a section in the spreadsheet labelled:
Genre/Special Interest Awards
some of the awards:
Spur Award (winners only, not including Juvenile)
Hugo Award Sci-Fi/Fantasy (winners only)
World Fantasy Award Fantasy (winners only)
Nebula Award (winners only)

Today that section is missing.

So the question: will the Genre/Special Interest Awards section be included in this sub-challenge? and if so, will the links be returned to the spreadsheet?
Thanks

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14224 comments That section is still there and those awards are still included Perhaps your display has changed? Can you scroll right?

Yes! That did it!! Thanks!!

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14224 comments Rosemary wrote: "Can we repeat authors? - if the author won two different awards for different books"

Yes. This is not one of our challenges where you must read 10 different authors.

Thank you for asking this question, Deedee, because I had not seen that section at all! :)

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14224 comments Rosemary wrote: "Thank you for asking this question, Deedee, because I had not seen that section at all! :)"

Oh, I'm sorry the spreadsheet was so wide that some of you didn't get to see your genre goodies.

Yes, thank you Deedee!

Ann (lit_chick_77) | 551 comments For the bonus of books within the same 10 year period, do they have to be different years? Or could the bonus be claimed with all the books in the same year?

You may duplicate years.

Kim (kmyers) | 438 comments Kristin Lavransdatter (Kristin Lavransdatter, #1-3) by Sigrid Undset
is on the list for the PEN Translation Prize for Tiina Nunnally (2001) . It is actually a series, do I have to read all 3 books to claim it for this award?

We rarely make exceptions, but we'll allow the individual titles for this series. She actually translated them over a few years prior to the award. Please remind us of this question/answer if/when you post.

Valerie Brown | 3262 comments I thought I saw this somewhere, but now I don't..... Can we read them in any order (within our chosen decade(s))? I have been assuming 'yes'.

Yes, any order.

Beth Robinson (bethrobinson) | 1174 comments Are the Pulitzer award for History and the Pulitzer award for Fiction considered the same prize or different prizes for this challenge? This is just an example, a number of others have sections as well, like best Novel and best Novella for the Hugo.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14224 comments Beth wrote: "Are the Pulitzer award for History and the Pulitzer award for Fiction considered the same prize or different prizes for this challenge? This is just an example, a number of others have sections as ..."

Not sure what you're asking, Beth. The Pulitzer isn't one of the prizes for EoTP Redux. The sheet tells when some categories aren't included from the linked lists. The Hugo is for winners only. The usual rules for EoTP Redux regarding graphic novels will apply as well as page length.

message 30: by Beth (new)

Beth Robinson (bethrobinson) | 1174 comments Sorry, I missed the Pulitzer wasn't included.

Technically, there is not a singular Hugo prize.

There is the Hugo for Best Novel and the Hugo for Best Novella, which is typically long enough it has been published as a separate book of over 100 pages.

There is an Agatha For Best First Novel, and one for best Novel, etcetra. If you look on the website for the prize itself there is not only one Agatha. And the Goodreads page also notes the difference.

Many of the awards are all-inclusive. When there is a category or status restriction (winner vs nominee), it is noted on the spreadsheet.

message 32: by Beth (new)

Beth Robinson (bethrobinson) | 1174 comments So inclusive means I can only use one of the Hugo Best Novel and the Hugo Best Novella. They are the same award for this challenge. Thank you.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14224 comments Beth wrote: "So inclusive means I can only use one of the Hugo Best Novel and the Hugo Best Novella. They are the same award for this challenge. Thank you."

Ah. Finally I see what it is you are asking. Yes. Each prize on the spreadsheet can be used only one time.

Does this qualify for the category Washington State Book Award for History/General Nonfiction?

The Long Way Home

Yes, for 2011

Kim (kmyers) | 438 comments I've already completed EotPR once, but just read a book by Sue Grafton, which qualifies for a prize I didn't use. Do I number it 15.11?

No, you can start at 15.1 again. It would be helpful for you to note it is your 2nd round, but not necessary.

(We only had that funny numbering for Bingo, which we did because the scoring was different.)
