Fall and Winter Collection Group Reads

Hi friends,

It’s hard to believe that we’re almost through our Spring and Summer reads already, but here we are, in August. I was thinking that it might be fun to read holiday-themed crime/mystery books for our fall and winter collection, with a book that ties to a holiday celebrated in each month. I have some ideas pulled together for a list, and will post that in the next day or two, so folks can check to make sure that we can all find the books easily.

We do still have an month left, so, happy summer reading!

Nice list! I just got back into reading more mystery novels a few months ago so I'm excited to see what awaits as I haven't read any of these but they all look so interesting!

Noticed that Feb’s book was published back in 1984 so it might be challenging to find a copy of that one

My library doesn't have it and it's $10.00 for a kindle edition and $20.00 for a used book on Amazon so I wouldn't buy it.

I like the choices. The one I’m having trouble locating through my library system is “ The Darkest Day”. It can be bought for about $13 online shipping from the UK

You may already know that reading print is extremely difficult for me. I can get audiobooks for September, October, and November; however, the other 3 months' titles don't have audiobooks available.
Please don't let my issues change what you choose. I still plan to follow the comments on whatever you choose to read.

Hi, friends! I'm looking forward to our upcoming Agatha Christie - a perfect time to read it. Like The Labor Day Murder, this book is also a mid-series entry. I feel like the Hercule Poirot Christie mysteries are standalone enough that it should be OK. However, we have a couple of other books ahead, our November and January reads, that are also mid-series entries. I don't usually read series out of order, but the holiday them of our Fall/Winter reads has lent itself to this in a few cases. Please let me know your thoughts - should I look for other novels for Nov/Jan?

I can't believe that my library had this book. I picked it up yesterday.

Since you've already done the work I'll say leave November and January as they are and let the chips fall where they may.

Hi Nancy, you're correct, it is Bad Tidings, by Nick Oldham. I think this is one we switched because of lack of availability of Darkest Day. I'll ask Gem to update the newsletter, and, thank you!

Hi Renita. There's a book called Paper Girls that is a CMT Group Read for December - is that what you saw? This group read is a separate one within the CMT group. We'd love to have you join us if you are interested in reading Bad Tidings.

Renita, there are a few different subgroups and monthly reads within this group. This particular subgroup, Collection Group Reads, was born of a buddy read that we did a couple of years ago, and we've continued it ever since. It's different than the others in CMT, in that I propose a new group of books that fall under a certain theme or collection. We've done some fun ones, related to seasons, sports, genre categories, etc. We're presently in a holiday-themed mode through February. I'm glad you'll be joining the discussion, and really looking forward to our read!
