Hi friends,

It’s hard to believe that we’re almost through our Spring and Summer reads already, but here we are, in August. I was thinking that it might be fun to read holiday-themed crime/mystery books for our fall and winter collection, with a book that ties to a holiday celebrated in each month. I have some ideas pulled together for a list, and will post that in the next day or two, so folks can check to make sure that we can all find the books easily.

We do still have an month left, so, happy summer reading!

Lisa

Jess (coffeeshopthrillers) | 33 comments I'm definitely looking for Halloween: Spooky/scary/Paranormal and of course Christmasy type mysteries

November:
The Keeper (Dismas Hardy #15) by John Lescroart

December:
The Darkest Day (Inspector Barbarotti #1) by Håkan Nesser

February:
The Saint Valentine's Day Murders by Ruth Dudley Edwards

LTJ (ltj81) Nice list! I just got back into reading more mystery novels a few months ago so I'm excited to see what awaits as I haven't read any of these but they all look so interesting!

Icewineanne | 725 comments Noticed that Feb’s book was published back in 1984 so it might be challenging to find a copy of that one

My library doesn't have it and it's $10.00 for a kindle edition and $20.00 for a used book on Amazon so I wouldn't buy it.

Nancy I like the choices. The one I’m having trouble locating through my library system is “ The Darkest Day”. It can be bought for about $13 online shipping from the UK

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Here are a couple of other ideas for Dec and Feb. Sorry, I should have linked the whole list rather than just showing titles. I'll fix that once our list is final.

Dec: Bad Tidings

Feb: A Judgement in Stone

Pam (pmunro) | 176 comments Hi, Lisa,
You asked about availability...
You may already know that reading print is extremely difficult for me. I can get audiobooks for September, October, and November; however, the other 3 months' titles don't have audiobooks available.
Please don't let my issues change what you choose. I still plan to follow the comments on whatever you choose to read.

Hi friends,

Here's the updated list for Fall/Winter. I'm hoping that the changes accommodate everyone who has had issues finding books. Please let me know if that's not the case, and we can look at swapping any problematic titles.

September:
The Labor Day Murder

October:
Hallowe'en Party

November:
The Keeper

December:
Bad Tidings

January:
Let Dead Enough Alone

February:
A Judgement in Stone

Hi, friends! I'm looking forward to our upcoming Agatha Christie - a perfect time to read it. Like The Labor Day Murder, this book is also a mid-series entry. I feel like the Hercule Poirot Christie mysteries are standalone enough that it should be OK. However, we have a couple of other books ahead, our November and January reads, that are also mid-series entries. I don't usually read series out of order, but the holiday them of our Fall/Winter reads has lent itself to this in a few cases. Please let me know your thoughts - should I look for other novels for Nov/Jan?

I can't believe that my library had this book. I picked it up yesterday.

Since you've already done the work I'll say leave November and January as they are and let the chips fall where they may.

Nancy My book is in transit. I agree with Sheri

Nancy Lisa, the monthly newsletter states that December’s read is Darkest Day not Bad Tidings. Which is it? Thanks Nancy

Hi Nancy, you're correct, it is Bad Tidings, by Nick Oldham. I think this is one we switched because of lack of availability of Darkest Day. I'll ask Gem to update the newsletter, and, thank you!

Hi Renita. There's a book called Paper Girls that is a CMT Group Read for December - is that what you saw? This group read is a separate one within the CMT group. We'd love to have you join us if you are interested in reading Bad Tidings.

message 27: by Renita (new)

Renita Cohill I saw both, I guess I'm a little confused on where to go for the reads! I'll definitely join you all for Bad Tidings as I've already bought the book and I'll read Paper Girls as well.. I've been reading Hide by Kiersten White..

Renita, there are a few different subgroups and monthly reads within this group. This particular subgroup, Collection Group Reads, was born of a buddy read that we did a couple of years ago, and we've continued it ever since. It's different than the others in CMT, in that I propose a new group of books that fall under a certain theme or collection. We've done some fun ones, related to seasons, sports, genre categories, etc. We're presently in a holiday-themed mode through February. I'm glad you'll be joining the discussion, and really looking forward to our read!

Renita Cohill Yaaay!! Thank you so much for the breakdown! I really appreciate it, truly! I look forward in partaking in this subgroup and look forward to meeting you all..
