One of my favorite books in 2022. As the protagonists were born in 1974, it’s perfect for Gen X readers with its many cultural and period references (donkey Kong and super mario bros; magic eye puzzles; going to college in the 90’s when the internet wasn’t yet pervasive). It’s a book about two brilliant gamers’ lifelong friendship, from being kids in a hospital fighting traumas to Harvard/MIT student days to middle age when they’ve built a world class gaming company. The side characters and their stories are also well-developed. But the friendship between Sam and Sadie is a beautiful thing to witness. 5/5 stars.
