I’ve been trying to find this book for a couple years now

I’m looking for a young adult fantasy book with an all black cover. The cover also has like a white smile on it. I cannot remember if the smile was just a line or if it was a stitched look. What I remember from the story is basically the an evil war lord, or someone like that, was killed and then was resurrected as a child with the plan of gaining his power back and taking over the world again. He ends up meeting people and his plan gets kinda screwy.
I read this book a few years ago and I loved it.
