A little girl goes walking in the woods and finds a newborn puppy next to its dead mother. Little girl cares for it until it's an adult. At some point a lady ends up seeing the dog some hiw and says it looks like her dog that went missing. Turns out the dogs mother was the ladys show dog.

I read this when I was 10 or so? So around 98-99? It seemed pretty accurate for the times. If i remember correctly the dog was a Norwegian Elk Hound.
