how do you annotate your books?

i personally don’t annotate my books because i wouldn’t even know where to start

I change my method all the time. If I already know the story, I try to tab the important parts of the storyline and characters, or the different themes of the books. For romance books, I usually annotate purely on the emotion I feel

i just started annotating when reading the goldfinch and i annotate based on my emotions like blue for favourite/lyrical quotes, pink for sad moments, yellow for funny moments, orange for favourite moments and green for allusions

I read some sci-fi and fantasy and I usually just write character names that I'm bound to forget at the end of some chapters. Other than that I only annotate books to underline or highlight some lines or passages I really like. So my annotations are def on the lighter side

I mostly underline using a highlighter and I make square brackets for large passages. If I am using post-its then I color code them. Like blue for sad moments, pink for quotes, green for romantic moments etc.

i usually only annotate when i read on my kindle and for that i just highlight, the meaning of the colors changes depending on the book. and i'm currently physically annotating for the first time, and for that i'm highlighting and making notes

i like to draw little doodles in my book, for example hearts or flowers, and i like to underline and highlight text, and use different coloured sticky tabs!
