The author mentioned how the mountain paths are like going to the post office in our world. That’s a pretty funny image, Book Nerd, lol!!
It's not such a stretch. I definitely see hobbits writing each other long chatty letters, usually accompanied by a big box of snacks.

I can totally see it now too and it would fit right into the book.

Part of me always feels sorry for Gollum, and then he does something nasty. His life is so strange and lonely.
