There are very few countries that have succeeded in waiting out the year without losing or surrendering. The rule was put into place by the invading country because a previous war that lasted for years caused the land to be ruined and recover to take forever - so they made the "no war for more than a year" rule. They even tell the countries they invade about the rule, and they still win the vast majority of the time before the year is up. I think there was a community of people with startlingly pale skin, but this could mean anything from a tribe of albinos to the main character being dark-skinned and being shocked at Regular White People skin tones - it's really unclear on that point, because it may or may not have mentioned there were even paler people somehwere in that world (I legit don'tknow if that's actually part of the book or if i made it up). Or I might be mixing the pale people up with a different book that I read around the same time. I think the POV switched between a boy and a girl, but I might be confusing that with a different book. It's a series, I think around 3 or so books, but I'm pretry sure the war did not last the entire series. There was also a pretty cool intro chapter that said something about a wheel of time or wheel of fire or something, and how it kept on turning. Maybe.

I could have read it anywhere from 2011 to 2018 - I was older than elementary school, but I hadn't graduated yet.

I don’t even know if I'm doing this right.

Julie (onetrooluff) | 90 comments Sounds like the Farsala Trilogy by Hilari Bell. The books are Fall of a Kingdom, Rise of a Hero and Forging the Sword. The first book was originally released under the title "Flame." The Hrum take over Farsala but they have a rule that if they can't completely subdue it within one year, they will give up.

Ky | 449 comments If you're on a computer or using desktop mode in your mobile browser, you can move it yourself. There should be an "edit" link at the end of your title and you can use that to move this thread to the Solved category.
