Hannah | 3335 comments Tom Rogers, a CIA operative, has been posted to Lebanon, a country divided by religious beliefs, to try to make useful contacts for the USA. Most of the characters in the book were quite idealistic and innocent, and were therefore able to be drawn into a world where they could be manipulated and exploited. Many of the events that take place in the book were factual which helped to make the story feel more real. I did feel a bit let down by the ending. All of the events seemed to be progressing, and they were then all wrapped up in a way that didn’t seem to actually resolve anything, so much so that I thought this was done deliberately to lead readers on to the next book in a series, except that, as far as I can tell, this is a standalone novel. Whilst I liked the book, I have been a bit put off reading anything else by Ignatius because of the ending.
