Kathryn | 3569 comments We are getting together on Saturday, October 29th at a venue yet to be decided, but it will be somewhere in Brisbane's South Bank area.

If you are interested, please put your names down in this thread, and I will advise you by private message with details of the venue once the numbers are confirmed. Please DON'T mention any questions about location details here in the thread for security reasons - you can private message me with questions.

Date - Saturday, October 29th, 2022
Time – Midday for lunch
Location - South Brisbane
RSVP – October 22nd, 2022

The Surprise Book Swap is always fun, so we'll do it again.

Surprise Book Swap

1. Bring along one book to the venue to give away – any genre, it can be a new book but a gently-loved book in good condition is also perfectly acceptable.

2. Wrap the book in whatever paper you have at home.

3. Place a tag on the wrapping with the description of the genre.

4. Each participant's name will be placed in a hat, and when your name is drawn, you can select a surprise book from the pile.

And feel free to list any books here that you’d like to find a new home for. You are very welcome to ask other people for books even if you don't have any to actually swap - most of us just want to clear our shelves so there's room to buy more books! If you want to list books here to see if anyone's interested so you don't have to lug them all in, you're very welcome to do that as well!

Definites:
Kathryn
Lynne
Alda
Angela

Maybe
Jane

Kathryn | 3569 comments I can't be there on the 21st August, but of those who are going, do you want to do the surprise book swap again?

And even though I can't be there, I'll organise emails to go out to people.

message 3: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 280 comments I can't do that date now either. Something came up today that I really need to get to on that day.

message 4: by Jane (new)

Jane | 752 comments I'm OK with this date, with the book swap and with the location you suggested in your personal message Kathryn; hope others are still available!

message 5: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments Change of plan!! Because so many people are away or otherwise busy on Aug 21st, we'll postpone until October - we'll make it October 29th, at this stage, and cross our fingers that there is less sickness around by then!

message 6: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 280 comments I'll put it in my diary.

message 7: by Said (new)

Said Bouziane Hello, is this meant for the Saturday Oct 29 or Sunday 30th?

We’re going for the Saturday again this time, Said.

message 10: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I've changed the dates in the first post of this thread to be October 29th - hopefully this time there will be less sickness around! Who's in for a catch-up then?

message 11: by Kathryn (last edited Oct 10, 2022 03:55AM) (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I haven't read very many of my own books, but I do have a copy of Fall of Giants by Ken Follett that I'm finished with and would be happy to give away to a good home.

message 12: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 280 comments I should be okay for that date. :-)

message 13: by Alda (new)

Alda Saldan (bioarla) | 49 comments Hi Kathryn, count me in for the catch-up on 29th October :)

Kathryn | 3569 comments Yay for Lynne, Alda, and Angela!!

message 16: by Jane (new)

Jane | 752 comments I’m not sure at this stage if I can make it as I have something else on in the morning which might run into lunchtime. What time were you thinking?

message 17: by Alda (last edited Oct 22, 2022 04:36PM) (new)

Alda Saldan (bioarla) | 49 comments Hi, I'm leaving here a list of books that I am happy to give away if anyone is interested in them. Just let me know and I'll bring them at our catch-up next week :)

My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell
Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier
A Column of Fire by Ken Follett Kathryn

Oops, sorry, Jane - somehow I saw the beginning of your post but missed the last part!! However, the time was in the first post anyway, as usual, so hopefully you noticed it, even though I missed your question!!

Alda, I’ll take A Column of Fire - I’ve downloaded the audiobook, and if I’m reading a print copy at the same time, it will make it go quicker!

message 20: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 280 comments Are we still on for today?

message 21: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments We are, Lynne, although it may end up being just you and I - Jane can’t make it, Alda was unwell earlier this week and was going to see how she felt today, and Angela’s been called in to work but isn’t sure how long for! Are you OK if it ends up being just the two of us?

message 22: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I figure at least if you and I meet, Angela and Alda may still make it…

message 23: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 280 comments I'm happy to do that. :-)

message 24: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments Excellent! See you later!

message 25: by Jane (new)

Jane | 752 comments How did the catch-up go girls? Was it just the two of you?

message 26: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 280 comments Yes, it was, but we had a nice chat. :-)

message 27: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments We missed everybody else, but we still nattered away!
