Also don't forget the whole fever thing at the beginning. I've never heard of a pregnancy causing that

True... But maybe the fever was still from that deadly plant. But they have grown it in the green houses!

True...but why now? That is what I don't understand. Is it because he is worried about the impact she has on Valek? But surely killing her wouldn't help him.

Has Owen been able to manipulate him? Plant false memories? With Yelena's magic gone, she wouldn't be able to tell if someone had been messing with him.

That's really possible. The commander did spend enough time with him.

And Maren is there too. She would have noticed if anything weird happened, right?

Well Maren is already lying to Valek, which is a shame because I used to like her, despite her puker comments.

Besides she would only notice if she was in the room when Owen put the whammy on the Commander

I really hate Maren and the Comander now. Why do they have to hide stuff from Valek? He's been working with the Comander most of his life!

I'm hoping that whatever it is we don't know yet will make me like them again! I miss liking them. I miss Maren, and I miss the Commander who hears a young girl's story when her teacher wants her whipped

Yes exactly! The commander is smart! He cant be this evil. I just dont want him to be the jackass I now think he is!

But...
The Commander has already been magically manipulated so would the amazing author use the same plot device twice? I'm going to have to read it again and see what I have missed or overlooked. There has to be some explanation for why the Commander is being such an idiot!
I can almost undertand why Maren might want Yelena out of the way (remember in Poison Study when Maren shot Yelena dirty looks whenver Valek wanted to talk for our favourite poison taster alone), but I hope she isn't that evil or conniving.

Segweying a bit back to the lock picking... My mother caught me trying to pick a padlock with some paperclips. The look on her face was hilarious! Just ordered a set of picks off of amazon as well!

Back to the commander though. He obviously isn't testing Valek's loyalty just seeing whether Yelena will be a big weakness of his. I just hope Valek passes the test.

you can get some quite cheap sets on amazon. I was pleasantly surprised.

If only I could reach in through the pages and give Ambrose a good shake!
