30.2 - Robin (Saturndoo)'s Task: The Monster Mash

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I enjoy decorating for Halloween with the fall flowers, cornstalks, pumpkins, cobwebs and more. My grandsons have taken a liking to scary and creepy things and keep asking if it's time for Halloween : ) For this task we will be reading "The Monster Mash"

For this task ONE book with MPG of graphic novels may be used.

Read one book for each option.

Book 1: Read a book with a word of at least 4 letters from the lyrics of "The Monster Mash" : https://tinyurl.com/yecxrpcx in the title.
Word must be an EXACT match. No plurals or possessives. Hyphenated words may be broken down.
EX: coffin-bangers can be used as coffin or bangers.
Required: State the word.

Book 2: Read a book that features one of these specific characters: vampires, ghouls, zombies, ghosts, werewolves, witches.
Required: State the character and if the character type is not specified in the GR description, provide a reference to establish the character type.

Yes, I will accept that. By definition a ghost is the soul or spirit of a dead person or animal that can appear to the living.

This looks like a good read. I hope you enjoy it : ) Will probably be adding it to my TBR

No problem : ) I knew it was in the title but when I went back to look I thought I had forgotten to put that bit in it. It's just not in the sentence where we are accustomed to seeing it.

Thanks Donna!! Hope you find some good books to read for it : ) Although I created the task, I have no clue what I'm going to read for it lol

LOL BINGO!!! That was my hidden agenda : ) It's just one of those catchy little songs that as soon as it's mentioned it gets stuck in your head for FOREVER : / Ever since I read the lyrics and created this task, I randomly catch myself humming/singing the song

For "witches"...

Does this include any or all of the related terms such as: wizards, sorcerers, warlocks, magicians, etc.?

No ma'am, just specifically witches.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Joanne wrote: "Would this work for witch Nettle & Bone, the GR's blurb mentions a "gravewitch""

I'm not familiar with a "gravewitch" so I had to google it. What I gathered is that this is a specific kind of witch that can raise the spirits of the dead and communicate with them : ) Interesting! I read through some of the reviews and it appears that the author uses the term Dust wife aka gravewitch. The book also has a MPG of witches so YES, I will accept it.

Thanks for asking and teaching me something new! I hope you enjoy your book : ) Happy Reading!!!

Hey Kim!! I'm not seeing in the description/reviews where there is a character that is a witch. Nor does it have a MPG of witches. So I'm going to have to say no, unless there's another source that can provide that info.

I haven't read the book, but I was basing it on a top review that says "A witch works secretly as a doctor to escape enslavement by his sister and meets a cute boy?" and 77 users shelved it as Witches.

Yes, I saw that review but that's the only one of several that I read looking for witch. I googled the book and can't find anything where a witch is "featured" or plays a prominent role in the story and that's what I am looking for. SRC uses MPG so I didn't go looking through the shelves. Let me check with the mods and see what they say : )

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3675 comments Hi Robin.

I have a quick question on book two. Rather than the creatures you mentioned being referred to in the GR description, would having an MPG mentioning any of them (e.g. Paranormal > Vampires) be sufficient support for their presence in the story?

message 33: by Robin (Saturndoo) (last edited Sep 25, 2022 08:44AM) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Hi Trish!!

The creature just needs to be present in the book. When you read the book just reference in your post to how it fits : )

Sarah (shiraloo) | 240 comments For ghosts, could I use Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune. Basically, the main character dies and lives as a ghost with his reaper and his ferryman while he deals with his afterlife.

However, there is no mention of the word ghost in the descriptions.

Thanks!

I've read the book : ) and yes I will accept it. The MC dies and is a ghost that refuses to crossover!
