Read this book in 2014, the main character is a girl who has read "a wrinkle in time" and makes many references to when navigating her own time travel adventures. One character gets saved from a car crash by a homeless man who was later revealed to be one of main characters who time travelled back to their current day to save the character but ends up dying. Essentially it has themes of predestiny.
