Ghost / Jason Reynolds. Last name Cranshaw.

Unfortunately, it seems like Ghost is one of only 2 characters I can think of right now. Jason Reynolds is a FANTASTIC author, the books are popular & easy to acquire, & they make the universe a better place, so hopefully that helps? The only other one I can think of is Hawkeye Collins, but I don't recommend them as much & they're more obscure.

Edit: What about a book about Santa or Mrs. Claus?

CraftyChara | 443 comments I already got the e-book Ghost.

I found a Hot air balloon in the Thea Stiliton seres but it's only 56 pages. The Thea Sisters and the Mystery at Sea

How about The Twenty-One Balloons

I can re-read Diary of a Wimpy Kid Book 1. I have been meaning to do that. Now I have a good excuse.

Abigael | 416 comments I just remembered I do have one for Category 5! I have a Ranger in Time book about the Underground Railway for 5#24! I would be [happy's the wrong word] okay to read this one! And I guess 5#25 since I have it in paper. I don't have 5#21-23 though.

Make sure you're satisfied with the article I found. I couldn't find anything else when searching "Jeff Kinney military" so it may be insufficient.

If the balloon is of a sort that people can use it to travel, I think it should count as a hot air balloon because most balloons, like toy balloons that kids & parties have, do not do that. Elymnifoquent.com had several hot air balloon books too. I'm reading 6#24 right now but I can find & read 16#77 later maybe.

Abigael | 416 comments 5#24 2 black kids escape slavery in 1850 U.S. The long road to freedom / Kate Messner. (Ranger in Time) August 24.

Abigael | 416 comments Suggestion (I don't want to read this):
🎈5#23 Around the world in 80 days / Jules Verne. (Classic Starts adaptation is MG)
🎈I'm finding quite a few hot air balloon books but zero I actually care to read.

Update: I'm giving up on hot air balloons now. Anyone care about crazy adventure more than me? I'll trade for another task or 3 or spend my time looking for suggestions for you or **anything, but I don't think I want to read about balloons at all.

**Disclaimer: not actually anything

CraftyChara | 443 comments I checked out bookfinity. It's a nice site but, it only finds you stuff based on a quiz. There has to be a site out there where you type what you're looking for and it gives you proper suggestions. For example, Middle Grade must have at least 100 pages books that have a hanukiah somewhere on it.

message 260: by CraftyChara (last edited Aug 25, 2022 05:50PM) (new)

CraftyChara | 443 comments I FOUND A HANUKIAH BOOK!!!!

On one of the editions on the bottom left corner you can see a picture of hanukiah on a shopping bag.

Penina Levine Is a Potato Pancake

It's middle grade and 135 pages.

Edit. Jeff Kinney does count as an author with a military background!

Abigael | 416 comments My library doesn't have that one. 😭Do you have access to it?

I'm SOOO HAPPY & PROUD you found one!!!!!!!!!!!!! SUPER EXCELLENT work, Chara!!!!!!!!!!! Tell us your secret? How did you find it?
I'm also soo happy you're stuck reading another Jeff Kinney! Hooray!

We found all the obscure ones, now we just have to read everything! This is the easy part! Let me know if you need help with anything else.

No worries about the late reply: we know work is busy. ☺
Good work finding & reading & finishing books! We couldn't do this without you!

Prophecy books:
🔮The super-easy (but maybe obscure because details of books can be forgotten after a while) & easy to acquire option is Harry Potter: There is one in Book... 3, I think? Or 2? When The Trio is in Ms. Trelawney's class learning about tea. There is also another scene where Hermione gets a prophecy from Trelawney but I don't remember which book (this is common HP trivia - should be easy to look up online). I think there may also be a flashback of Trelawney's prophecy from around when Harry was a baby? (Again, should be able to find this in online trivia.)
🔮The one I read last month is Carnival magic / Amy Ephron. I still have the book & I double-checked to make sure I give the correct one, so I even have a page number if you need it! It's a series but I can't seem to find the series title & they're kind of companions rather than strictly chronological anyway.

Abigael | 416 comments BT#8. The most recent book in Hardy Boys Adventures series (#24) As the falcon flies / Franklin W. Dixon. August 25-26.

CraftyChara | 443 comments There is a group on Goodreads called "What's the Name of That Book???"
You can also ask for specific book suggestions. I ask for 100 PG MG book with a hanukiah on it. So far this is the only suggest

My library doesn't have it either. I can try inter-library loans. (Can you also do inter-library loans?)

Edit: Found another The Christmas Revolution
Here's a list! https://www.librarything.com/tag/Hanu...

Edit: Task 21: Mez's Magic

I currently only have access to Libby, the paper books I have with me in the city, and the paper books in my hometown. So far, none of them have Hanukiah on them.

If they have another edition where they have Hanukiah on them then they still count.

Good to know; thank you! I haven't been able to find any of the titles you've specifically mentioned, nor any other titles that fit for Hanukiah, regardless of whether they are another cover than the one that fits.

Abigael | 416 comments My question about Nancy Drew#5 Secret of Shadow Ranch seems to have disappeared: does anyone know how to find if/when it's been reprinted since 1994? The edition that I have talks a lot about "Indians" and I'm hoping the inaccurate terms have been edited out since 1994.

message 271: by CraftyChara (new)

CraftyChara | 443 comments Only thing that I can find is an audiobook book released 2003. I don't know if they made any changes to it.

message 272: by Abigael (new)

Abigael | 416 comments Just finished it! The audiobook I found seems to match exactly to the 1994 reprint. It works fine for 16#71 Horses, though. I don't have to read a boring* (boring for me) horse club book, so I'm happy! I think I have a book for BT#6, I just need BT#7. I'll do research at some point today.

message 273: by Abigael (new)

Abigael | 416 comments I've started Olu's Lions / Carolyn London. It's a super obscure book, so here's a link with slightly more information than Goodreads has:

Abigael | 416 comments Chara's Craftsations wrote: "Olu's Lions Here's the GR link."

I already had it on my shelf, but there's not much information available about it, so I gave a link with more information. I finished it. 5#25 Set at a boys' school & the nearby town of Makeri in Africa. August 27-28

I can't figure out how to find books that have been reprinted 4+ times. Help?

I think I may have misunderstood what a "reprint" is. This list of books is only a very minor help in getting a better understanding of what counts as a reprint. I am now making the assumption that any of the first ~35 original Nancy Drew books has been reprinted 4+ times & will count for BT#7.

Abigael | 416 comments 1#5 Suggested by someone on team Morrigan Crow. Ronia, the robber's daughter / Astrid Lindgren. August 28-29.

Hi Team Zenobia!

Today is the last day of the Challenge! Please remember only books finished by midnight your time tonight can count towards the challenge!

To give you and your team captain time to organise any last minute additions and changes to your team spreadsheet, the winners of the challenge will be announced on 2nd September.

And if you’d like to share some of your favourite reads of the challenge with others you can do so here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
I love seeing all the fun and different books people read for the challenge and getting some great recommendations for next year!

Speaking of next year, if you have any cool ideas of things to add to the challenge or suggestions or improvements that can be made please feel free to leave a comment here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... or private message me if you prefer. I’ll be the first to admit the challenge wasn’t perfect but it never is and every year is a learning curve so I’m looking forward to building on what I’ve learnt this year with an even better challenge for you all next year!

Abigael | 416 comments BT#6 Four different cover designs. I want to go home / Gordon Korman. August 30-31.

message 284: by Abigael (new)

Abigael | 416 comments 8#Trees 4+ trees on the cover. Secret at Mystic Lake / Carolyn Keene. (Nancy Drew Diaries). August 31.
I've still got a few hours left. Planning to finish at least one book.

message 285: by Abigael (new)

Abigael | 416 comments One of the people read only one book, Coraline, right? Are we allowed to put that book+person on the spreadsheet? I don't remember their name but is wasn't Chara or Filli.

message 286: by Abigael (last edited Aug 31, 2022 10:31PM) (new)

Abigael | 416 comments BT#9 Number in the title. Once upon a thiller / Carolyn Keene. (Nancy Drew Diaries) August 31. I've still got a few hours left. I'll look at the spreadsheet & see what else is unfinished.

3#clues Bungalow mystery / Carolyn Keene. (Nancy Drew) August 31. This is the last one I'll be able to finish.

message 287: by Filli (new)

Filli (aiiadhe) | 57 comments hello all! gonna update my read!

finally finished reading Bridge of Souls and Problem With Prophecies for prompt in category 13.

message 288: by CraftyChara (new)

CraftyChara | 443 comments Allyson put down Coraline for August 1 but, I don't think that she finished it. Books must be finished in order to count.

Abigeal, I already claimed BT 9 and added my book "97 Ways to Train a Dragon. Anything else we can put "Once upon a thriller" in?

You complete a category, Filli. Great job!

message 289: by Abigael (new)

Abigael | 416 comments Chara, technically, I finished Bungalow Mystery 47 minutes (approximately) after midnight, so let's keep it honest & disqualify that one & use Once Upon A Thriller for 3#Clues instead.

Thank you so much to both of you for making this challenge fun & successful & almost complete! I look forward to working with you both in the future if we get a chance.

Any read-athons you're looking forward to next?

message 290: by CraftyChara (new)

CraftyChara | 443 comments Fix it!

Great job team! Especially considering that we were down two team members.

I don't know of any other read-athons that are going on. My plan is to read some grown up books right now. :D
