The Task guidance section has this to say: The protagonist can't stand on the side whilst the parade or Carnival procession walks by, they must also walk with the floats or dancers etc as part of the procession.

CraftyChara | 443 comments Either Task 45 or 24. Amina's Voice Does deal with some racism which could also count as bullying

If you're unsure here's a Spoiler Warning...

CraftyChara | 443 comments Task 69?"Shouldn't You Be in School?(All the Wrong Questions #3)by Lemony Snicket" It has a gold sticker?

message 154: by Abigael (last edited Aug 10, 2022 06:37AM) (new)

Abigael | 416 comments Yes, it has a gold sticker. I will try to make sure I selected the correct edition on my GR shelf.

The protagonist is in the "parade", so it seems to fit but I don't know if it's really considered a parade or if it doesn't count because it's a family reunion walking in a giant group & being watched by everyone.

Update: you can look for yourself at the book on my GR challenge shelf - the original description I wrote points out where the sticker is. If you look at the cover, the gold sticker is kind of out of place - it doesn't fit well with the rest of the book. Also, the four main books in the series ALL have EXACTLY the same sticker in the EXACT same place. The texture on the actual book also implies it's a sticker - it feels different than the rest of the cover.

Are they mistaken for being in a parade? If so then I think that it counts.

Abigael | 416 comments Thank you for updating main characters, Chara!

I'm home with my family for a while, so reading has slowed down a lot. 😖
New completion: Really Truly by Heather Vogel Frederick for 18#89: there are 2 (minor) parade moments. August 10-13.

Have a nice time with your family, Abigeal. I'm going to spend my weekend reading. So don't worry I'll pick up the slack...Not that you're slacking. 🙂

Abigael | 416 comments New completion: (Chronicles of Narnia) Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe / C.S. Lewis. August 13-14. 14#66 Animated adaptation.
I think Category 14 should be finished now.

It is. :0) And the fact that the category was completed by the same person. 10 points for Zenobia!

message 163: by Abigael (new)

Abigael | 416 comments Hooray for Category 10!

Also, I'll be finished Coraline, for the task about 2019 books, in about 2 hours (which will still be August 14).
If anyone is looking for books for tasks like Horror or Villain on the cover or Protagonist with no friends or maybe some other ones, maybe read Coraline.

I've already taken care of horror and villain on the cover.
Just so you know Coraline has an off-Broadway play so it might count for Task 16

Hi Team Zenobia!

The bonus tasks have now been added to your spreadsheet!🎉

How the points work:
- The first 5 bonus tasks are worth 3 points each. If all 5 are completed there’s an extra 10 points.
- The second 7 bonus tasks are worth 5 points each. If all 7 are completed there’s an extra 15 points.
- Page points apply.
- There are no extra points if one or two people complete the first 5 or second 7 tasks alone (like there is for other categories).

Remember: only books started on or after 15th August (your time) can be counted towards the bonus tasks!

CraftyChara | 443 comments Anybody who needs help with book suggestions let me know. I have quite a few.

message 167: by Abigael (new)

Abigael | 416 comments Coraline / Neil Gaiman. August 14. 8#36.

I want to read Bonus #1, Bonus #11, and I wonder if the most recently published book in a 5+ book series will count for Bonus #8? The series in mind is still being published.

message 168: by Abigael (new)

Abigael | 416 comments (The incredible worlds of Wally McDoogle) My life as a toasted time traveler / Bill Myers. August 14. 1#4 Recommended by someone on our team.

message 169: by CraftyChara (last edited Aug 15, 2022 04:20AM) (new)

CraftyChara | 443 comments Q1: I'll ask Kadi
Q2: I wonder who recommended that? ;0)

Edit: Kadi said that it does count.

message 170: by Abigael (new)

Abigael | 416 comments Thank you, Chara!

1#1/2/3 Same author/series/protagonist's name as another book read by someone else on our team. Kenny & the dragon / Tony DiTerlizzi. August 15.

message 171: by Abigael (new)

Abigael | 416 comments Kadi said that only books read on/after August 15 count for Bonus. Hopefully that 14 is an error or can be re-assigned. :)

message 172: by CraftyChara (new)

CraftyChara | 443 comments Great job! I thought it might be for one of those.

That was a typo. I finished the book today while I was getting my hair done.

message 173: by Abigael (last edited Aug 15, 2022 04:03PM) (new)

Abigael | 416 comments I am having difficulty finding a middle grade amnesia book that I can access & don't hate reading. I did find one (Happenstance Found) that was available but I would rather lose points than read it. Sorry everyone. I'll keep looking between finished books.

message 174: by CraftyChara (new)

CraftyChara | 443 comments It's five extra points if you complete the entire category. A little bit more if you read a 300-page book.

You don't have to do it. This is supposed to be fun. If you still want to, I can try and find you another book.

message 175: by Abigael (last edited Aug 15, 2022 07:57PM) (new)

Abigael | 416 comments Part of my limitation is that I don't have access to many paper books & my library's ebook/audiobook selection seems to be lacking available MG amnesia books. If you are somehow able to help me find a book I can access, that would be lovely and extremely surprising.

August 15. 8#38 The invention of Hugo Cabret / Brian Selznik. Hugo is an orphan and at the end he gets adopted/becomes a ward of the married couple main characters.

today i started and finished amina's voice. will check if there are any prompt fulfilled in the bonus task

message 177: by Filli (new)

Filli (aiiadhe) | 57 comments mmm Amina's Voice can be for bonus task #12, or the main task in #45.

Chara, where do yo want me to put it into?

i can read bonus task #2 , title Root Magic or Ophie's Ghost.

message 178: by Filli (new)

Filli (aiiadhe) | 57 comments i still have difficulty to find a book for task #90, character that has no friend.

some books that i have in mind, literally, they still have a friend :D

it's difficult because almost all middle grade books have friendship in it.

message 179: by CraftyChara (last edited Aug 16, 2022 05:14AM) (new)

CraftyChara | 443 comments Fillisita: Books for bonus task have to be started on the 15. I've already complete bonus task 12 so I'll put it in 45
You can have bonus task #2.

Fillisita and Abigeal. I'll see if I can get you guys some book recommendations.

You mean task 62: A book with a character that has no friends

message 180: by Abigael (new)

Abigael | 416 comments Filli, do you have access to Coraline by Neil Gaiman? I don't think she has any friends.

Filli (aiiadhe) | 57 comments ahhh! you're right! she doesnt have any friends.

and i've already read Coraline, btw! why i didnt remember that haha

Abigael | 416 comments I'm heading to a small Church library, and our town "library" (which is as small as our not-big-enough-to-be-a-village hamlet), and a Little Free Library. I'll let you ladies know if I find anything obscure. Hopefully, my little obscure town has the obscure books we need.

message 185: by Filli (new)

Filli (aiiadhe) | 57 comments have you tried scribd, Abigael? so many middle grade books in there. but only audiobook (in the mean time) for the new release one.

message 186: by Abigael (new)

Abigael | 416 comments Filli, I think Scribd costs money, or at least requires a credit card. I don't buy things online & I don't have a credit card (budget strategies). I looked through all the kids' & teen books & the adult fiction (in case something was mis-filed) & found ZERO books with Jewish religious symbols. I foujd some other books that fit my tasks, including one that is MG & seems to be set in Africa and books with (probably) every Christian symbol there is and all kinds of obscure books and books with just about every secular image you can ask for on a MG cover, but nothing about Hanukkah. Taking a break to eat a mid-afternoon lunch & will try the LFL & town "library" later.

How about Libby? You could always borrow a distant friend/family library card and borrow e-books from other libraires.

message 188: by CraftyChara (last edited Aug 17, 2022 06:23AM) (new)

CraftyChara | 443 comments Abigeal: Here are some MG amnesia books. Stolen, Restart, Lexi

Fillisita: If you don't or can't read Coraline. Here are some friendless MG books. Lenny's Space, Okay for Now, Suee and the Shadow

They are MG I checked.

message 189: by Abigael (new)

Abigael | 416 comments Thank you for the book title suggetions, Chara! I've been using Libby to access e-books/e-audiobooks from my library and they've helped a lot! A few of the books I read in half a day have been from Libby. I will look into accessing Libby from other regions.

Abigael | 416 comments BT#11 (Hardy Boys Adventures[TM]) Mystery on the Mayhem Express / Franklin W. Dixon. Series title is 3 words. August 16-17.

message 191: by Abigael (new)

Abigael | 416 comments Chara, just checking that you saw that I read Coraline for 8#36? I think that was a MG group 2019 book.

message 192: by Abigael (last edited Aug 17, 2022 04:16PM) (new)

Abigael | 416 comments I just noticed 6#27 is available and my name is beside it! Can I use it for Case of the mysterious dognapper (currently 3#13)? I will be able to find another mystery book SUPER easily! Hawkeye's given name is Christopher.

Abigael | 416 comments I have a Disney book directly connected to a Disney movie, SantaBuddies. It's a "junior novelisation" and it fits every other parameter but it's not on ARbookfind. Last year, I read books like this and got confirmation from other sources that the book is MG. For this title, I checked Amazon & it said "8-12".

message 195: by Abigael (new)

Abigael | 416 comments OMGOSH YOU GUYS!!!!! I DID IT!!!! I found an amnesia book!!!!! In SantaBuddies, Santa Claus forgets who he is!!!!! YAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!! I'M SOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!!

message 199: by CraftyChara (new)

CraftyChara | 443 comments Yeah. 96. :(

message 200: by Abigael (new)

Abigael | 416 comments Chara, does the book by Jaleigh Johnson count for anything else? I didn't mean for it to be taken off the spreadsheet entirely. Because there are only 3 of us, any book that we've read & fits a task should be given a place if possible because it's unlikely we'll finish otherwise.
