Hi, I’m looking for this book I read as a kid in the mid to late 80s. I would guess it was a few years old at the time, probably from the early 80s. As I said in the header, it’s middle grade about a girl whose best friend moves away, from their suburban area to a large city, probably New York but could be Chicago. The only details I remember are at one point she visits the friend in the city, they go shopping and buy matching “grown-up” dresses that have pockets, which are an important feature to them. They also try to convince the owner of a donut shop to change the spelling of his business name from donut to doughnut. Thanks for your help!
