I read this book in the mid-late 1980s. Four children in a family found/inherited a doll house, that was a replica of the house where they lived. It came with dolls that matched the family in different eras. The children could place the dolls and then go into the house somehow and interact with them.

There was a curse about the first son dying and the current oldest son would be the last in the chain. And I think all the sons were named Donald McDonald.
