This is the official thread for the Starcrossed readalong discussion. A reading schedule has been highlighted below, we aim to follow this for the discussion — but this is a guide and doesn’t have to be strictly followed! Use this space to write your thoughts as you read & discuss with other members, but please be careful not to spoil! More on that below.

Additionally, we have a ‘Starcrossed: Final Thoughts - Spoiler Chat’ where you can go to discuss final thoughts if you wish, although that can also be done here (following the spoiler tag rules) before moving over to that thread for a more in depth chat.

Final Thoughts Here!

Rules:

• General group rules: please be polite, no rudeness or bullying will be tolerated.
• At the top of your comment, mark what chapters it is that you are talking about, and then tag your spoilers. To do this, write < spoiler > (your comment will go in between the tags < / spoiler >. There are no spaces between the symbols. A successful tag should look like (view spoiler)
• Have fun!

Readalong Schedule

July 11th - Readalong begins!

11th - 18th: chapters 1 - 4
18th - 25th: chapters 5 - 9
25th - 1st of August: chapters 10 - 14
1st of August - 8th: chapters 15 - 19

This schedule is just a guide for the readalong discussion, but it does not strictly have to be followed - we understand everyone reads at their own pace! This is why we are firm on the use of tagging your comments with the chapters you are commenting on and using spoiler tags. This way you can read and write your thoughts down and participate in discussion, without spoiling it for anyone else.

Giveaway

Anyone who participates in this discussion will automatically (unless you decide to opt out) be entered in to a giveaway, with the prize being a Starcrossed/Scions themed bookmark sent from Josephine Angelini herself, who will also sign and dedicate it to you. The winner will be selected and contacted shortly after the end of this individual read along.

Hi everyone!

Has anyone began reading yet? I for one am excited to be reintroduced to this world after being away from it for so long. Gosh, I last read them in middle school I believe — and I’m now nearing the end of my masters & that’s after taking a gap year between undergrad & postgrad!

Excited to see how my thoughts and feelings have changed and what I remember. What are everyone else’s experiences/relationship with Starcrossed?

Hi Ryssa! Thank you so much for joining! Not too long ago then, but long enough, how are you faring on the details so far? Are you finding that you've remembered a lot from your first reading / are you noticing things now this time round that you didn't before?

I don't usually annotate unless it's for university or something, but I add funny lines and things that shocked me usually to a Goodreads status update - this time I'm going to be annoying all of you with all my thoughts and feelings hehe.

Yas (yasartpage) | 11 comments Has anyone listened to the audiobooks of the series? And are they good? I’ve read the trilogy several times in English and German but never listened to the audiobook, so I’m debating on doing it for this reread.

that scene it's just too good to not put a tab on it! I still remember the first time I read it and though (view spoiler) ... well, we know how that ended lmao

Leticia Monteiro (leticiabgm) | 15 comments hey guys, just wondering... who are you favorite characters so far?? I'm re-reading it and thought mine could possibly change, but nah, still Hector and Claire (I love them all tho)

Hi everyone. I'm not on week 3's chapters yet, but I'm currently reading the week 2 chapters. Chapters 1-4 went by so fast!

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

ikr?! I put a marker at chapter 5 to stop because as much as I'd like to binge read: I have other things in my life I need to also focus on. and when I hit the marker I was like "...but I just started"

Yas (yasartpage) | 11 comments Okay I couldn’t stop at Chapter 5… I hope that’s okay 😂 (I like to read my books in almost one sitting)

same here lol
I'm already half way through the book, making the most out of my vacations! hahah even because when my classes start again for the next semester, in August, it will be harder for me to read anything 🥴

Lianne Dubbs | 72 comments Mod
I stayed up late to continue reading Starcrossed (until 3:00 AM CST), and I'm currently on Chapter 13. The plot moves by quickly!

Maria | 4 comments Hello everyone !! I started too and this time I also highlighted some things. I want to create a kind of family tree of houses with the different powers of the descendants. Then I highlighted more or less when there is a description of a character so as to have a sort of description of each one. 👍🏻❣️
I want to read it calmly and be careful about every detail so I'm in the fourth chapter of the book.⭐️

I love how quickly the plot develops in this book! It keeps you hooked and wanting to read more.

I tried to stop at chapter 4, but I can't! The book is too addicting and I don't want to put it down.

message 32: by Alina (last edited Jul 12, 2022 01:04PM) (new) - added it

Alina (coeureads) | 4 comments Haha totally feel everyone moving on so fast with the books - I usually reread the whole trilogy in about 3 to four days but I have tomorrow and the day after off so we’ll see 😏 Right now I'm on Chapter 10

To stay within the given dates I challenged myself to read the books in a different language than English or German this time. I started Starcrossed in French yesterday and boy oh boy does it take a while 😂 (I kind of read French and English side by side and switch every few chapters)

I’ve reread the trilogy so many times I basically know them by heart so it’s not too hard to read them in a language I’m still learning 😅

Has anyone read the books in a different language or maybe considered so? I’d totally recommend!!

Josephine Angelini | 13 comments I laughed when I re-read that first scene, not because it’s particularly funny but because this entire conversation is based on my real life.

When I was in high school my dad and I shared a pick-up truck. It was an early-eighties Mitsubishi standard model, or “stick shift”, that was dirt brown, covered in rust and mud from hard use on our family farm, and it rattled something awful as if it were constantly shaking from the blistering cold of Massachusetts winters, even in the middle of summer.

This truck was dead ugly. It was diesel-powered, so not only did it belch out blue-black smoke, it also smelled. Think of a shaking, smoking turd coughing its way apoplectically down the street and you’ve got the basic idea.

Did I enjoy driving this truck? No. No, I did not. It used to make my teeth clack together it was such a rough ride, and holding onto the vibrating stick shift made my right hand go numb at times. Also, it was cranky. If you didn’t slide the clutch out just right the little stinker would stall. Oh, and forget about hill starts. Pop the clutch, and the whole truck would buck like a mule.

For those of you who have never driven a standard transmission vehicle, just watch an old movie of someone trying to drive a Model T, grinding the gears, the whole chugga-chugga rig jumping and jerking like it’s alive and you’ll get the basic idea. Now imagine the driver is a sixteen-year-old girl who is trying very hard not to be made fun of, and you get where I’m going.

But I was grateful. That truck meant freedom, and I was touched that my dad let me drive it. In fact, I loved sharing that cranky, smelly, turd of a truck with my dad. I was almost sad when he got a brand new, jacked-up, pale sliver Toyota long-bed and told me that he would drive the old truck to work and I could drive the new one to school. Almost.

I think this memory is so sweet!

Botoocean | 2 comments Just finished through chapter 4. Its really tempting to keep reading. Its been almost 8 years since I last read these books, details keep coming back to me as I read, but it is nice to be able to be surprised again by smaller details I’ve forgotten and be able to experience how the mythology of this book’s universe unfolds. On a related note, no longer being in high school while reading these books compared to the first time I read them, it is weird picturing high school age kids for all the characters. My mind keeps defaulting to college age kids because that’s in my recent memory.

I totally get the feeling! Although I couldn't stop on the default chapter for exactly that reason: I kept getting flashbacks from certain moments and I just HAD to get there as soon as fast, so before I even noticed it, I was finishing Goddess already lol
These books are so good, and getting back to them now, felt so nostalgic. I can't wait to see what's about to come next in the continuation.

Nicole (nikkitikkitavi) | 3 comments I finished chapters 1 - 4 today. I had forgotten how much anxiety and angst Helen experienced. I had also forgotten how explosive the first meeting was between Helen and Lucas. It is nice to reread for the details of the story after so many years.

Hi Lianne, please refer to the beginning of the post re spoilers. These comments need to be put under spoiler tags or moved to one of the other threads: the final thoughts thread or the uncensored spoiler chat. Please do this ASAP as I don’t want anyone who hasn’t read before to be spoiled for the whole series. Thanks.
