Ann (annrumsey) | 17005 comments Jess suggested a fun way to select one of your books each month. "Choose For Me". I'll let her explain it and look forward to seeing what each person picks as a selection of possible books, and the recommendations from the group.

Jess (coffeeshopthrillers) | 131 comments Members choose at least (2) books from their “Want To Read” folder and other members decide out of that member’s list what they should read next for that month. Members would create their thread just like they do for “Monthly Reads”.

I’ll use my folder as an example:
Look for the discussion topic: Choose For Me
Create your individual thread: Jess’ Choose For Me - July 2022

1. The Couple at No. 9 by Claire Douglas
2. The Last Flight by Julie Clark
3. The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware
4. The Lies We Bury by Stacy Green
5. Blindsighted by Karin Slaughter

Carol responds: The Last Flight
Ann responds: Blindsighted
Sherry responds: The Last Flight
…and so on…

Ann (annrumsey) | 17005 comments Jess: It looks to be fun selecting for others; I predict more books on my TBR list after this from the ideas of what to read.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9521 comments Fun! A couple of questions. When does the reader decide what to read? Is there a limit to get suggestions in after the reader posts their list? And by "from their Want to Read folder" do you mean it literally has to appear in that Goodreads folder? I have lots I want to read but I don't always remember to tag them in GR.

You can read at any point during the month or if you wanted to give people time to respond, you can always post it for August.

It doesn't necessarily have to be any specific order or list, you just list so many books that you're interested in reading and others will comment what they think you should read next. The title with the most comments will be the next one you'll read

message 6: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 17005 comments Sounds good Jess. I was wondering about the timing too, and what happens if you get a lot of different suggestions. I will have to see about doing this for August.

Ann (annrumsey) | 17005 comments lol I just noticed that Carol and I followed your example with our real recommendations for your July list.

message 8: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 17005 comments I'm thinking about throwing two books out here for suggestions for which to select for an August book. I'm not sure I will pay attention to the answers though, I've never been one to want to read a book 'on demand'. Lol.

Ann, that's my problem. The library books I choose are driven by due dates or Group Read dates. The rest of my books, well I'd say I'm only motivated to read them based on my preference in the moment, but if I'm honest I have so many library books out that I'm struggling to make it through (especially the print ones) that I don't even know that I'd get to a "Choose for Me" owned book. I said at the beginning of the year that those would be the 1-10 Determination List books but I'm getting nowhere completing those.

that's my issue, too. sometimes I have to be in the mood for a certain book- and I have a stack of ones I have to read and review. i have a hard time with the books I have to read for the book group I facilitate at the bookstore- I hate the pressure of I HAVE to read it by a certain date- have that issue with library books too!

message 11: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 17005 comments Carol and Sherry, exactly the same for me. I have to be in the mood for my books. With my first choose for me list I picked three I was feeling directionally in the mood. Lol.

lol, ann. which did you end up choosing?

message 13: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 17005 comments Sherry, I will probably choose the John Rain book one, it got more votes. But I am majorly overbooked with other library books right now so July looks like tight timing. I may have to rename my thread “August” lol.
If I read it before December for my determination list it will still be a win!

Donnajo | 4361 comments I just noticed this thread. Sounds like fun. I might give it a try to get those print books I own that are around for awhile read. I'll try and see what I come up with today and post my list I probably don't have the book listed my goodreads shelf unless it's listed under one of my files (library sales, cart etc). I'll try and pick books for same certain areas like main big bookcase, cart, library sale etc).

message 17: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4361 comments Thanks Jess, for coming up with this idea. I'm excited about giving it a try already picked books for July and august. I think this will motivate me to read the book or books that other people pick for me. As you all know I always have more than a few books going at once between arcs, library book club, and other's but I really need to get more of my print books read and off the shelves.

message 18: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 17005 comments DonnaJo- more print books read and off your shelves means room for more books! Lol

message 19: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4361 comments More book can be added from bags lol. I was going though goodreads folders for the mason jar challenges and I seem to think a folder or two are missing books and also see a few books listed that got weeded out and never removed from folder so I’m think I might redo those folders and switch them some.

I figured it was something different and my members of my local book club love it!

message 21: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 17005 comments Jess had a great idea a few years ago to start threads when we wanted an extra push to select one of the books we knew we wanted to read but hadn't picked up for one reason or another.
This fits right in with our Determination Lists for 2025 - so if you have some of those books please see Jess's suggestions below and let us help you Choose your next book!
From Jess:
