For the August group read, we have a selection of fresh picks from last year’s award lists! All three novels won several awards. I’ll list the 2021 major book prize for each.

The Promise by Damon Galgut - Booker Prize
At Night All Blood is Black by David Diop - International Booker Prize
Winter in Sokcho by Elisa Shua Dusapin - National Book Award for Translated Literature

Discussion will start on August 15 and voting poll is open through July 15 at this link:
https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...

As usual, please vote for a book that you do plan to read if it wins.

LindaJ^ (lindajs) | 2548 comments I've read all three so won't vote. I liked The Promise and Winter in Sokcho but found At Night All Blood is Black just too depressing to appreciate.

Thank you, Linda, for sharing your reading experience with all three novels. I've heard similar reactions to yours about Diop's novel so it's good to keep it in mind if it wins the poll. It was featured on quite a few award lists but I never read him. The Booker prize for Galgut's novel was applauded as well-deserved on our other forum (TM&TG) and earlier this year I read the most recent novel by Dusapin which I loved and can only imagine that her Winter in Sokcho could also be a good read indeed.

A quick update that there is still one more week left to vote. Currently Winter in Sokcho has a slight lead over The Promise.

The last day to vote until midnight PDT (7 am GMT). It's a tie between Winter in Sokcho and The Promise. Let's try to avoid a tie-breaker round!

The poll was missing its dates but I have fixed that, so we have a result.
