Joseph Pearce wrote a commentary on the novel a while back, "The Betrothed": The Greatest Novel Ever Written? I know I read it at the time, but I don't remember a lick of it. The very same article also appeared under his "... in a Nutshell" series at Crisis Magazine.
I am sure Joseph Pearce needs no introduction for many here. For those unfamiliar, among other things he lectures and writes about literature and literary figures from a Catholic perspective.
I'll wait to reread the article until after I finish. However, I thought I'd post the link.

As it is a long book (over 500 pages), the moderators have decided to dedicate two months (July and August) to read this book, so that most of those who decide to read it may have an opportunity to finish. Therefore, the next voting will take place in mid-August, to choose the book for September.
