Sally | 337 comments Hello!

These two author profiles: José Ignacio de la Torre and José Ignacio de la Torre Rodríguez actually belong to the same person. I was about to merge them, but I found the following problem:
if you look at the covers, they only say "José Ignacio de la Torre", but in the Spanish Government's ISBN database his books appear under the full name "José Ignacio de la Torre Rodríguez": https://www.culturaydeporte.gob.es/we...
Which of the two profiles (the one with the second surname or the one without it) should be kept in this case? Thank you in advance.

Arenda | 26447 comments There is at least one cover with Rodríguez: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

Sally | 337 comments Sorry for the late response, and thanks Arenda for spotting that!
I re-checked the rest of the covers, and while in Cister no Vale do Douro no names appear at all, every copy I've been able to found in Portuguese libraries also includes the "Rodríguez"--so I'm guessing he's credited with the full name inside the book. The rest of the books on Goodreads do only say "José Ignacio de la Torre".

Both in official databases (The Spanish National Library, the Spanish ISBN database) and in booksellers allowed as sources (Amazon, The Book Depository) he is listed including the Rodríguez surname. I know that Goodreads has different standards than other places for certain things (like what's a series). But if there's one--maybe two--book(s) with the full name, would that be enough basis to follow the example of these external sites? Or is the "José Ignacio de la Torre" definitely the profile to be kept, given that the majority of his books (including the newest ones) only have that on their cover?

Arenda | 26447 comments There are two options:

1. Using José Ignacio de la Torre Rodríguez on all books, as it is allowed to use a longer version of an author's name, as long as the shorter name is completely included in the longer name.
But, all books that are newly added, will probably not include Rodríguez in the author's name, as that is not included on the covers, and have to be manually checked and moved.

2. Using José Ignacio de la Torre as primary author on all books, and adding José Ignacio de la Torre Rodríguez as secondary author, only on the edition(s) that have Rodriguez on the cover.
This way there will still be two author pages for this author (which is not uncommon on GR), but all the books will be on the same profile.
Leave the author bio on José Ignacio de la Torre. That indicates that that is the main profile for this author. Adding a link to the other profile in the author description can be helpful.

Personally, in this case, I prefer option 2.

Sally | 337 comments I think I'll go with option 2, then.
Thank you so much!

Jennifer Suarez | 1 comments Hello! I am a new author & I am trying to set up my author profile, but my book was assigned to another Jennifer Suarez so I am not able to claim it as my own. The book title is "Don't play small". Please let me know if anyone can help me with this! Thanks.

Done. Please start a new thread for any other issues, and always include a link to the book you are asking about.
