Kristine Heckadon | 14 comments About one family and told from the mom's perspective, each chapter is a day. The mom rode a bike home from work because the cars no longer worked due to an electromagnetic pulse. The older kid brought the younger one home. The family had slightly prepped for this and had a protocol to make sure everyone got home. One of the kids got a bad cut on his hand and they sewed it back together with dental floss and boiled the needles for cleanliness. Moved the in-laws to a house down the street and the end of the book has a cliff hanger, Has a blue cover maybe and could potential have the word days/ day in the title.

Kristine Heckadon | 14 comments It is neither of those, It was told strictly from the moms perspective and never switched. I also remember near the end that someone related to the family entered with a running car that didn't short due to being in a metal? barn. It was a short-ish book and ended with raiders coming to cause chaos and threaten the main character.

Rainbowheart | 28620 comments Are you sure it's YA and not adult fiction, if the mom is the only POV character?

message 7: by Kristine (new) - added it

Kristine Heckadon | 14 comments I am pretty sure because I read it when I was in middle school and at the time I didn't have access to adult fiction books.

Rainbowheart | 28620 comments Life As We Knew It?

But the mom isn't the POV character. The MC is a teenage girl.

message 9: by Kristine (new) - added it

Kristine Heckadon | 14 comments It isn't that, Thanks for trying!

message 10: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28620 comments It's a super long list, but YA Dystopia Novels is pretty comprehensive. Does anything there look familiar?

message 11: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28620 comments The Blue Book of Nebo?

But it might be too recent.

message 12: by Kristine (new) - added it

Kristine Heckadon | 14 comments I've looked through a good portion of the list and none of them look like this book (I have read a lot oy YA dystopian) and the blue book is too recent to be it.

SCB | 60 comments How about "Last Light" by Terri Blackstock?

message 14: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28620 comments Last Light for SCB's trackable suggestion.

message 15: by SCB (new)

SCB | 60 comments For the future, Rainbowheart, how do I edit the label of a link like you've done here? Thanks.

message 16: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28620 comments No prob! I think it only works if you're on desktop, but you click on the little "add book/author" link right above the reply box. You search for the book you want and add it from there. The GR software makes it trackable in the system, so you can tell how many times it's been mentioned on the group.

Discussions Mentioning Last Light

It's a handy feature!

message 17: by SCB (new)

SCB | 60 comments Thanks! I hadn't even noticed that "add book/author" even though it's right there. Appreciate the tip!

message 18: by Kristine (new) - added it

Kristine Heckadon | 14 comments It isn't Last Light. The family might have been preppers or had some extreme knowledge like former military. I believe it was a standalone novel and that's why its driving me nuts.

Kristine Heckadon | 14 comments Bump

message 20: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28620 comments Do you remember how many kids were in the family and their approximate ages?

Were they boys or girls or some of each?

message 21: by Kristine (new) - added it

Kristine Heckadon | 14 comments I am pretty sure there were 2 kids, one that was in high school and one that was in middle/elementary school. The younger one was definitely a boy, the older could also have been a boy. The schools that they attended at the beginning of the book were like right next to each other because the older one picked up the younger one.

Kristine, what were the parents' jobs? Location?

I copied some plot details to the topic header. Feel free to edit it.

Dee (austhokie) | 638 comments You read in 14-16 - was it a new release then? Did you borrow from school library? Do you remember any other books near it on shelves?

message 25: by SCB (new)

SCB | 60 comments Could it be one of James Wesley Rawles?

I've only read one and don't recall the specifics from your request in that book, but he's since written a few more I haven't read, all in the same theme.

message 26: by Kristine (new) - added it

Kristine Heckadon | 14 comments I rented it on kindle unlimited I believe, but that account no longer exists so I can't look it up. It doesn't look to be any of the James Wesley Rawles books. The mom worked an office job and I believe the dad was on a work trip in the beginning and doesn't show up until half way ish

Is this book for adults or teens? (YA refers to teens, in this group.)

message 28: by SCB (last edited Mar 25, 2023 07:45PM) (new)

SCB | 60 comments Also, given that it sounds like the mom is the main character, do you recall if the author is male or female?

message 29: by Kristine (new) - added it

Kristine Heckadon | 14 comments Its for teens, nothing was super graphic and that is one of the few things i am sure of.

message 30: by Kristine (new) - added it

Kristine Heckadon | 14 comments No clue who the author is, i read a lot of books during this time and don't remember author names well

message 31: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 638 comments Post Grid: An Arizona EMP Adventure - this was written 2014, is YA and in KU

message 32: by Kristine (new) - added it

Kristine Heckadon | 14 comments I don't think so, I distinctly remember it being a family situation and that there was a long bike (like pedal bike) in the beginning

message 33: by SCB (new)

SCB | 60 comments Here's a possibility: Solar Storm by Rob Lopez. It's part of a series but it's the first, so perhaps seemed like a standalone when you read it.

message 34: by Kristine (new) - added it

Kristine Heckadon | 14 comments I found the book its The First 30 Days and I just need to find a way to read it because it doesn't appear to be anywhere, just the bonus content.
