Read in the early to mid 1990s in Canada.
I think it was a contemporary setting. Girl is given a doll, or goes to stay in a room that has the doll in it. The doll is named Allegra but the girl didn't name it that.
Allegra has red eyes eventually. The girl turns her to face the wall, or moves her, but when she wakes up Allegra is back on the dresser facing her.
