While Gabriel was open to Pandora’s independence and respected her intelligence, he questioned having Dr. Gibson having the skills to save his wife’s life until Dr. Havelock gave her his strong endorsement. Are the situations different or should he have had the same open mindedness?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments It is one thing to understand your wife's need to be creative then build a business based on that creativity. It was hard for men of that time to consider that women could be a doctor especially when someone you love is close to death. Let's face it, I know men today that won't go to a female doctor. I worked with a twenty something guy who objected to seeing a female in the ER.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments Poor Gabriel is asked to accept a lot that is outside the norm for a man of his social status. To his credit in this situation, there were not a lot of female surgeons around and he is asked to trust Pandora's life to one.

I gave him a pass because it was a life or death situation for his wife. Also, women couldn’t be trained as surgeons in England; Garrett Gibson was trained in France where it was legal. She’s a rare breed in London and kudos to Rhys and Dr. Havelock for their giving her credibility.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I can understand Gabriel being hesitant when it came to Dr. Gibson. No one thought that women had the brains or stamina to become a doctor. It was unheard of.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 909 comments I understood him being hesitant to accept Dr. Gibson also. Women were not taken seriously and his wife was badly hurt. It made sense that he would want a male doctor.
