Hello Everyone,

How is everyone doing? I hope anyone in the southwest US is doing okay with the heat, as well as anyone in the south anywhere it is going next.

This week I finished Sea of Rust. I liked it well enough. It got better as the book went on. The beginning didn't grab me initially. However I didn't like it enough that I expect to continue the series.

In keeping on the sea, after that I started Sea of Tranquility. So far it is interesting. Each section is moving by a century or more with the same mysterious character but I'm not far enough in that it is connected yet.

I am really close to finishing The Ghost Brigades. I have about one+ chapter left.

Next week I go on a family reunion vacation so I need to grab a book or two for that. The House in the Cerulean Sea is becoming available and maybe one more. I'm still a few weeks away from Legends and Lattes being available.

QOTW:
Do you tend to seek out books for a season or if there's a holiday during the month, or a month long celebration like Black history month, Pride month, Women's History month? If so what are you reading or have you been reading?

I tend not to do any timed reading. I might grab a Christmas romance once in a while but otherwise no, I don't do any month-long celebration specific reading. I'm interested in what others do though!

Rebecca | 311 comments It's supposed to hit 100 here on Tuesday, so we'll see how that goes.

Les Oubliés du dimanche - I found this in the Little Free Library by the bathhouse of the campground we visited this spring. I don't know how many French-reading people pass by there, but I did, so I figured it was meant to be. This was interesting; sort of literary fiction with a little hint of magical realism, not the sort of thing I would usually pick, but it was well written and I mostly enjoyed it.

QOTW: I am doing this less than I used to, partly because I've been doing hold requests rather than in-person browsing (due first to pandemic and then to local branch renovation), and partly because I have cut way back on cozy mysteries. I really should make a point to get some LGBTQ+ rep in this month, though.

Crawling to the finish line of the school year! I'm still struggling with Brightness Reef and I took a quick break from it to read Gallant, which I loved. Not quite up to par with Addie LaRue, but close! I also have The Kaiju Preservation Society which I plan to pick up tonight before going back to the David Brin.

QOTW: I rarely time my reads, although specific times of year will often put me in the mood for reading a specific genre or author. I do like a good re-read of A Night in the Lonesome October every few years at Halloween time :)

Jen W. (piratenami) | 362 comments Hi all,

We're going to get a new round of tests tonight. Here's hoping we're finally negative again.

Since the last check-in, I've read:
The Queer Principles of Kit Webb, not for a prompt. This was a lot of fun, and I'm actually really looking forward to reading the sequel.

The Kaiju Preservation Society for the Popsugar parallel reality prompt. It was so much fun. I really loved it! I'm currently trying to convince my partner to also read it.

Some comics and manga:
The Ancient Magus' Bride: Wizard's Blue, Vol. 4
Yona of the Dawn, Vol. 36

I'm currently reading Tokyo Ever After for the second half of the Popsugar sister cities prompt, since Tokyo and NYC are sister cities. So far it's fun and I like the characters. I enjoy this kind of cute, fluffy wish fulfillment story.

QOTW: I do this sometimes, although I'm not always successful because, like Rebecca said, I've been doing mainly hold requests from the library so I can't guarantee when I'll get something. I definitely do try to read at least some Black authors during Black history month, and LGBTQ+ authors during Pride.

Trystan (trystan830) | 91 comments Finished Rebel Dawn. i kinda started Ilium by Dan Simmons while i wait to pick up Shadow Fallen by Sherrilyn Kenyon/McQueen from the library tomorrow!

QotW: if it's at the top of my pile when one of those months gets here, then i will. if not, totally random when i will get to it, especially since the book I'm picking up from the library tomorrow i requested at the end of April! o_O (they don't seem to be too timely much anymore.....)

I liked Ilium, but not as much as his Hyperion Cantos. That quartet are some of my favorite books ever.
