Epic Fantasy: Book about a young man who leaves his valley and ends up in a city. There he learns to fight, and ends up fighting in a stadium where the winners get to study at an elven school. The elves are faster and better than humans and are quite racist towards humans and dwarfs.


I read this book within the last 3 or 4 years and would really like to read it again, but i just cant think of the name and not even the name of the Main Character.

Spoilers ahead:!! (plot as i remember it)
The MC grows up in a valley. Then he gets sent to the city, where he ends up at an orphanage. From there he applies to a famous fighting school within the city and learns very quickly.

The MC fights in a stadium (as a tournament). The best fighters are allowed to attend an elven school, where he then learns to fight even better, and also has riding lessons/bow lessons etc. He unites dwarfs and humans at the school and even makes a few elven friends. There is also some kind of romance with an elven woman, i think the daughter of the chief of the school. The point of racism between elves and humans/dwarfs is quite important during the whole book.

Just remembered: Spoiler ahead!
(view spoiler)[ After studying at the elven school, the MC and his class travel back (via boat) to the city where he fought and travel into the mountains to fight against some kind of spiders or spider-like creatures.
At the academy/school they also had some kind of portal where they could practice fighting against these spider creatures, and thats how MC got to know the elven romance interest better.
