Oleander | 263 comments Wow - time to think about August already and I haven't read June's books yet. Lol - to a reader that's not a bad problem.

I'll start the nominations with Darling Annie by Raine Cantrell and What the Duke Desires (The Duke's Men, #1) by Sabrina Jeffries

message 3: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) | 2666 comments September Moon by Candice Proctor (aka C.S. Harris, author of Sebastian St Cyr books). 1800s Australia. A sheltered Englishwoman is forced by circumstances to take a position as governess on a rugged and remote outback farm.
September Moon by Candice Proctor

Hummingbird by Lavyrle Spencer. A classic, and one of her most popular books. Denver, Colorado in the 1800s. Two men are injured in a train robbery, and the prim and proper Abigail takes on the task of nursing them back to health. Which one does she fall in love with?????
Hummingbird by LaVyrle Spencer

T. Rosado (trosado) | 193 comments This feels like a hard one to nominate without having read the book or otherwise having in depth knowledge of the content. I’ll have to dig deep for this one since I like nominating books I haven’t yet read.

Btw, nice choices, Jan.

Thanks T. I like the idea of nominating books I haven't yet read too, but I also don't mind nominating books I have read but would happily reread. You will have to look at books based around house parties or road trips etc.

I can let one of the other moderators moderate - but I think it has just gone off the 12 month list as we read a Heyer book last July and this is for August (since I created the list and I took it off I should know - LOL - but I do sometimes gets things wrong)

I nominate Butterfly Swords by Jeannie Lin - heroines traveling party is attacked en route to her betrothed. Attack forces her to join forces with an outsider and they travel together. At least I think that’s how it goes to start though it’s been a while.

Lauren | 1369 comments I nominate Color of Darkness by Ruth J Hartman for a novella. I was surprised how good a novella it is.

I would have nominated Warrior's Lady by Gerri Russel but kU charged $2.00 :(

Never read Amy Jareki? You're in for a treat. She tends to write for Highlander books. I hope you enjoy it :)

Maureen wrote: "I would like to Nominate a Novella The Invitation by Jude Deveraux https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5..."

Maureen - The Invitation by Judt Deveraux is 384 pages long, so does not qualify as a novella.

Would you like to swap it for one of the two other novels you have nominated, pick another novella or drop it?
Thanks!!

Hi Jan- I have tried to find Hummingbird by Lavryle Spencer online on Amazon-au and also via open library and cannot access it. I am not sure if it is easily available in other parts of the world. Are you able to easily access it where you are?

Hi Susan. I have an old paperback copy of Hummingbird so never looked it up on kindle. Just looked now on kindle Australia and yeah, strangely, it's not available even though so many of Spencer's other books are on there. It's odd because it's a perennially popular book. Who knows why this one isn't available? I will withdraw the nomination if you wish. Will try to quickly think of another nom instead.

My other nom was a Candice Proctor book and funnily enough I see two other of her books have been nominated this month as well. She only wrote a few HRs too. Seems like forced proximity must have been a popular trope for her LOL.

message 37: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) | 2666 comments If you think I should change my nomination, I will change it to another Lavyrle Spencer classic, Years. I checked and it's definitely available on kindle. This one is set in about the WW1 period in rural North Dakota. A naive but feisty young schoolteacher moves to the area and boards at the home of local farmer Theodore Westgard (who thinks it is going to be a male teacher LOL). They fall in love, and although there is an age gap, they can't fight it. It's a beautiful book.

I like to leave my nominations to the last few days. To see what everyone has put forward.
Before I could sort out my nomination. We decided on the spur of the moment, to go away for a few days, while the weather was nice. I had no Wi-Fi, up in the hills.

That's fine Susan. No worries. I do recommend Hummingbird as a lovely, classic Spencer read though, if anyone is able to get hold of a copy just for their own enjoyment. A pity it's not on kindle.

It must have just been recently that Hummingbird became unavailable as an ebook. I had added it to my Amazon wish list as an ebook less than a year ago, so it was available then. Thankfully, I also have a pb copy. I'm not sure about Australia, but it's easy to acquire LaVyrle books at second-hand shops.

Absolutely. She was an incredibly popular author and there are still many of her paperbacks floating around.
