M | 11617 comments You have until June 15 to post a poem, and from June 16-23 we’ll vote for which one we thought was best!

Please post directly into the topic and not a link. Please don’t use a poem previously used in this group. Only one submission per person is allowed.

Your poem can be any length.

This week’s topic is: Tiki Torch.

The rules are pretty loose. You could write a poem about anything that has to do with the subject/photo but it must relate to the topic somehow.

Most of all have fun!

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10111 comments POET: Garrison Kelly
TITLE: Ninjas and Shit
GENRE: Heavy Metal Song
RATING: R for language, sex, and violence

GENTLE VERSE
The breezy beaches lit with tiki torches
The sunlight kissing the trees and porches
The purple skies caressing the horizon
Making sweet romance to the lovers’ island
Holding hands as the doves fly past
A passionate kiss, time doesn’t move fast
A foot massage with peaches and cream
Afterwards snuggling for a heavenly beam

AGGRESSIVE VERSE
Fuck that! I want some ninjas and shit
Barbarians beating asses in the spiky pit
Armored marines blasting alien bitches
A war that requires eight million stitches
A billion staples to close the wounds
A river of blood all over the room
And then a siege tank runs over all
BOOM! Splatters everyone against the wall

CHORUS
Bombs! Gasoline! Ninjas and shit!
Giant! Robots! Ninjas and shit!
Tits! Dragons! Ninjas and shit!
Ninjas and shit! Ninjas and shit!

DIALOGUE
“But what about the beauty of Shakespearian love?”
Rain down on that shit with fire from above!
“But what about the literary classics we know?”
Set a big ass time bomb and wait for it to blow!
“But what about the taste of the finest wine?”
Forget that garbage, your ass is mine!
“But what about…” Can it, Prince Edward!
Death and destruction are so much better!

CHORUS
Bombs! Gasoline! Ninjas and shit!
Giant! Robots! Ninjas and shit!
Tits! Dragons! Ninjas and shit!
Ninjas and shit! Ninjas and shit!

By Brett A. Starr on June 5, 2022

Pole-mounted torches mainly made from bamboo
A wick sticking up from a container of fuel
The lights give an atmosphere of Polynesian accent
The use of citronella aids as an insect repellant

At the end of Prohibition in the city of L.A.
A Polynesian-themed bar had many on display
“Don’s Beachcomber” started a trend to sustain
But this bar used lamps that were fueled by propane

This craze spread across our American land
In the 50’s a Wisconsin business came up with a plan
To mass-produce aluminum-poled torches
This tropical décor appeared on many porches

The Tiki brand expanded with fire pits
Supplied with a wood pack and pellet bits
It appears they’ve tapped into our American desires
For a hint of danger with little controlled fires

M | 11617 comments A very nice survey of the history of the tiki torch, and done in the form of a poem. You may start a trend!
