Come talk about your initial, general impressions!

Please save all discussion of particulars, details from the story, character choices, plot questions, etc. for the full spoiler thread.

Meredith | 1819 comments I started the other day and I'm up to chapter 8 (30%). I like that things got off to a quick start with the story and we are learning more and more about the world as we go along. I wish for a few more details, though, or a map (I love me a map).

I am finding the world very interesting. I also realized that this is my third post-environmental-apocalypse-flooded-earth book this year, and all were published in 2018. The others were Blackfish City and The Past Is Red, both of which I enjoyed.

OK I am sold!

ETA: Just read the first two chapters and I am hooked. I like the world building and obviously I have a soft spot for naval SFF.

Mitch | 20 comments I'm liking this. Maybe it has a little too much romance for me, but I like the idea of an natural navigator.

Ben (bhchild) | 18 comments I'm honestly not loving it so far, I feel like Compass Rose's narration is very heavy-handed, and there are contradictions in details about the ships that were confusing. I'm only 50 pages in though, so maybe I'll come around

Nelle (isabeaublue) | 23 comments Almost 40% in and I'm looking forward to reading more. I did read another of the author's books a few months ago (Nottingham: The True Story of Robyn Hood) which I really enjoyed.

Also good to remember that this wasn't published by a large SF imprint like TOR or Orbit, but by a small lesbian press (Happy Pride!). It's not a romance novel, but does have romantic elements, which is very important to the book's main intended audience.

That's a good point, thanks for the comment!
