Welcome to the The Priory of the Orange Tree Buddy Read Discussion thread! This thread officially opens on June 1st and anyone can join at any time. Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

Each day we will be reading by chapters or page numbers. Page numbers are an approximation based on the hardcover or paperback that is the default on Goodreads. The suggested Buddy Read discussion schedule is as follows:

I am so excited to read this one! It's been on my TBR since it came out and I am a bit ashamed I haven't read it yet. Lol!

I am finishing another BR tomorrow and then I hope to start on the weekend. Looking forward to this one its been on my TBR for a long time.

Its good so far. Things start picking up quick in this one!

I have read the first 2 chapters and it starts quick with the action, So far I am enjoying the story but find I will have to make notes to keep characters and storylines straight. I tend to have issues with reading fantasy because of the spelling of names and places, its like I have a mental block my mind just wont remember them.

Chapter 1
(view spoiler)[ The story with Tane finding a stranger on the beach. It is the night before the Choosing Day for Tane and she is to be in seclusion. i am not sure what the Choosing Day is or what it represents. Is it choosing for a marriage partner, choosing a life profession?
She takes the stranger to Doctor Niclays Roos house to see if he can help hide the man. He is resistant at first to help but the offer of silver changes his mind.
The stranger is Triam Sulyard a member of in the household of Sabran Berethnet, Queen of inys. Not sure why Triam has arrived and what he is seeking as the Dr has warned him not tell him why.
The chapter ends with the appearance of dragons rising from the sea and taking flight. Why have dragons appeared as it seems that this is not a regular occurence? (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 2
(view spoiler)[ Opens with an intruder in the Queen's Tower. He is in the Privy Chamber but is unaware that he is being watched by Ead. When he opens the door to the bedchamber Ead stabs him.
in the morning Ead roams the grounds and palace. We find out more information about the kingdom and important players.
Dragons/wyverlings are Draconic creatures and have asleep/dormant for sometime but are now starting to reappear.
Ead's friend Lord Arteloth Beck (Loth) is now missing . Seems that since he came to court and made friends with the Queen he is a threat to any marriage prospects and perhaps that is why he is missing.
Ead goes to assist Lady Truyde and finds out more gossip. Ead assists in the Privy chamber and because of this position can roam the palace and find out information. Seems she likes to know what is going on and what secrets there are.
I am sure there are many secrets in a palace court in the course of the story will there be many red herrings? (hide spoiler)]

I 100% get the thing with confusing names and stuff and unfortunately for me, I didn't get the bright idea of taking notes and now almost 4 chapters in I have no idea who these ppl are and what anything represents and I have to start over because the storyline is muddled up in my brain right now so

I'm well into chapter 20 and I am fighting for my life here, I just wanna dnf this so bad

There's an awful lot of characters tbh like all we need is 2-3 at least so tell me why there's like 75 of them so far
The MCs are starting to annoy me too much and one stupid MC is never an issue but make it all of them and suddenly I wanna cry
"Good morrow" is a phrase I never wanna see again if I can help it

I tried to read on the weekend but had a headache that I couldnt shake.
Oh no dreaded character overload....When you have to take notes to keep everything straight it no longer is reading for enjoyment ....it becomes such a chore. ...
I am going to see if I can read more this week but I am so busy with work not sure if I will get much read...

I’m currently on chapter 30. While I’m am enjoying it, it really is a bit daunting and I’m finding it hard to focus on the story. I’m having to listen to it for the most part but, I’m finding it hard to follow along that way. I am thinking I may need to take a break from this one and read something lighter…… if that makes sense. I’ve been super busy, stressed, and I feel like this story is just so big that it’s making my brain hurt because I have so much other stuff going on right now. Lol! I just now realized that we are supposed to be finishing this book up tomorrow and I’ll admit that I’m relieved I’m not the only one struggling with this one. I do agree and have to admit that this one has defeated me for the time being. Im so sorry!

This one is going to be DNF for me as well. I just cant get into this one. Not sure if I am not in the mood or Fantasy is just not meant for me. This is the 3rd time I have attempted to read this book,

I think the book is just not good I mean we can't all not be in the mood right?

I was doing this as a BR in another group and there are some that didnt DNF....I am going to try to continue as I really dont like to DNF a book....

I loved this book, so I'll say to keep reading a bit more? It was hard to get into it, but after I understood all the concepts I was so hooked. (I had to travel when I was reading it, and planned to take a thinner book with me, but finally I've carried this almost 900 page book with me because I couldn't put it down lol)

I’m still working on it. I wish I liked it more than I do. Dragon riders are something I love. I can’t figure out what exactly it is about this story that is just killing it for me. It may be the fact that I feel like this story is more about the queen than the dragons? I just don’t know.
