This is the group thread for Project Hail Mary!

This thread is open for discussion beginning June 9th! Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed (mark as a spoiler) in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days of the month can be used to catch up if needed! Page numbers are an approximation based on the hardcover or paperback that is the default on Goodreads.

The Group Read Discussion schedule is as follows:

Week of 06/09
June 09: Chapters 1-3 or 47 pages
June 10: Chapters 4-6 or 47 pages
June 11: Chapters 7-9 or 47 pages
June 12: Chapters 10-12 or 47 pages

Week of 06/13
June 13: Chapters 13-15 or 47 pages
June 14: Chapters 16-18 or 47 pages
June 15: Chapters 19-21 or 47 pages
June 16: Chapters 22-24 or 47 pages
June 17: Chapters 25-27 or 47 pages
June 18: Chapters 28-30 or 47 pages

You can read the group book at any time during the month and at your own pace. This is the pace the group will be using, but if you read ahead or will be giving spoilers, please mark them (click the "some html is ok button"). If you have any questions a mod or another member can help you.

Jen K | 1547 comments Read this a few month's ago as a buddy read in another group. I enjoyed the story, read the hardcover. Everyone who read as an audio LOVED it so I would suggest that option.

Great to hear that because I have the audio.

Nyssa I'm getting a late start, so I will definitely need the extra days. I overbooked myself and then started a week-long project, which I just completed. I'm glad the thread won't be closed immediately.

Aliana (aliananana) | 88 comments Starting a bit late because I have no perception of time these days, picked up the audiobook from my library. Heard a lot of good things about it so looking forward to it!

Nyssa Imagine my shock and joy at learning that the audio version was included with my purchase of the Kindle version!! I had no idea until I started reading it this morning and noticed the headphone symbol on the corner!

This will be my first experience using the audio version for a full-length novel! I usually only listen to short stories, and I heard a novella a couple of weeks ago. I still read along, though. I lose focus if I try to listen while doing something else.

Nyssa I'm about halfway through; choosing to listen to this as I follow along has to be one of the best reading decisions I have ever made!

Although a bit science-heavy for my taste, it is still fascinating - and then there's Rocky! Rocky is the reason to listen to the audio version!

Laura ☾ | 1102 comments I finished this on my train ride today - it was a quick read! I actually really enjoyed it overall.

It felt like it was a bit of a similar vein to Skyward in terms of its vibe, but definitely more science-heavy (which I did not mind at all).

The linguistics aspects were absolutely fascinating!

Nyssa I am currently reading chapter 17—the whole Drs. Dubois / Shapiro's conversation (pgs. 282-283 Kindle version) had me LOL.

Aliana (aliananana) | 88 comments I'm about 30% through my audiobook at the moment, really enjoying the nitty gritty details and the science concepts because I haven't read some good sci-fi in ages. Reminds me how much I love the genre! It's been a quick one for me too, might finish it tonight and see how I go.

Nyssa I finished this yesterday. I found the ending to be bitter-sweet. (view spoiler)
The very last scene did make me smile.
