message 51: by AliciaJ (new)

AliciaJ | 237 comments Hi Lanelle,

Can we use past tense for a word if it only means adding one letter, like an 's' or a 'd'? I have the word "wage", but only found "waged" in my book. Will that still count?

Sorry, no. You may only add a S to a word. So 'wages' will work, not waged.

Ok, thanks.

You get the value of the Scrabble letter you're reading for and a point for the word you found in the text, whether it is the BWotW or the WotW.

Shan ~A~ | 1238 comments Will this work for wage?

as the non-wage-earner (how it's printed in the book)

I found a definition that says, "...hyphenated words are compound words..." So the answer is no. Sorry.

Michelle | 1615 comments The Cape Town Team is down a player. Is there any chance for a replacement?

They checked in, but did not post a completion post for Week one. I sent a PM, but have heard nothing. They did not check in for Week 2 to claim a letter. Can I read for that second letter?

Thanks

I don't have any replacement players available. I can send a message out to all of TVF members asking for one if you want me to.

In the meantime, have one your team read a second book in case your missing player doesn't check in by the time is up Wednesday night. Then you can use book for points.

Roger - president of NBR United - (roger_presidentofnbrunited) | 1591 comments Lanelle, can the word we are looking for be in an expression, for example with butter, butter me up? Would peanut butter work?

As long as the word is separate and not embedded or connected, it will work. All of your examples are good.

Could Buttery be used for bonus word Butter?

No, sorry. The rules says that you can only add a 'S' to a word.

message 65: by Meg (new)

Meg (makeli2) | 1776 comments I'm sorry to seem obtuse but I need to ask these questions so I can really be clear on the rules for these situations:

A team member didn't post their completion post last night. We didn't hear from her this morning.

1. Can one of us read a book instead? Is so, is it too late anyway? I noted at the start of the challenge that books are due Tues by 11:59PM, but I thought I saw later that Wednesday eve was ok? (I actually started one for the letter she had in case it's allowed)

2. Whether we can read a replacement book or not, what is the rule for posting the completed reviews? IOW, is it a case of all reviews having to be in for the week to be counted for that week, or a case of being able to post what we have and earning points for those at least? (Was I as clear as mud? 🙄)

Thanks much!!!

message 66: by Lanelle, Production Chief (new)

Lanelle | 20851 comments Mod
Meg, a team member can only read a second book for a planned absence. All reading must be finished by Tuesday 11:59 pm.

For a missing player, you are unfortunately out of luck the first week. The second week, a team member can read a second book just in case the missing player doesn't show up for the second time and is eliminated from the game. That way the team doesn't lose more points because of the eliminated player.

Go ahead and make your team Completion Post for the three players in your team that read.

You can use the first word of the title (excluding 'a', 'an', or 'the'), or the author's first, middle, or last initial

Is there a different website you could make a link to? Maybe Barnes & Noble, WorldCat, or the author's website?

Thanks for letting me know. Good luck on your exams. There isn't anything else you need to do.

Meg (makeli2) | 1776 comments Quick question: How many extra points will be given for this final week's extra bonus word? I'm guessing 1 point but thought I'd check.

Just 1 point. But if the entire team finds the extra word, that could make a difference.
