Scrabble and Scavenge Q & A
Laura wrote: "Lanelle, are assignments to team, random, or could we sign up a team of 4 if we had one?"
The team assignments are slightly random. I will randomly put 1 book a week readers with teammates who are willing to read 2 books a week.
If you have a group of 4, you can sign up as a team.
I'd rather not put less than 4 together; like 2 friends.

Thank you, Prinzess.
Dale, you'll post a Completion Post on your team thread, and then a Captain will make one post on the Reporting thread with copies or links to all four members' Completion Posts for the week. Does that answer your question?

Roger - president of NBR United - wrote: "Lanelle, do we choose the letter in the wotw or is the letter assigned?"
That is up to you and your team. Some teams might want to have a 'first come, first served' type of system, and other teams could go with a rotating system; 1st week you have the first letter, week 2 you would have the second letter.
Roger - president of NBR United - wrote: "If we pick does the team have to choose same letter?"
No. Each team member has one letter of the four-letter Word of the Week.
Roger - president of NBR United - wrote: "Also if the word is, say coat, would the plural coats be acceptable?"
Yes. The word may be plural, but nothing else. To use your example, not 'coated' or 'coating'.

Actually, no. That would be changing the word. We'll stick to just adding a 'S'.

The rating and review is not optional. The review must have at least 3 sentences.

I checked my list of WofW and BWofW, and there are no words that will need the 'es', so we're good :)

K, thank you! ❤️📚

"If you find both the WotW and the BWotW in the text of the book, you will earn the Scrabble point value of the letter and a point for each of the found words."
What if we read our chosen book and the WotW isn't in the text? Since it seems we only get points from finding the words, can we try another book or just miss out on points that week? Ditto with the BWotW...

Correct. Using the example in Message 2 of each team thread:
Coat & Chair Week:
My Letter: C
Book: Charlotte's Web
Read: 6/20/22
Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★
Review: (At least 3 sentences long, please.)
Bonus Items and Points:
Coat: "...his silky white coat..." p. 136
Chair: not found in the text
Total: C = 3; 3 + 1 = 4 points

You earn points from the letter you're reading for and for finding the two WotWs. The two WotWs do not have to be found in the text of your book, but you'll miss points for your team. I would suggest checking for the words in the text of the book before reading it.

Michelle wrote: "Who keeps track of scoring?"
For the team or for the whole challenge?
Each team member scores their own book. The team captain will count up the total for that week. I will keep a running total for all the teams. (I haven't decided yet whether I miss publish that :)

I'll post the WotW and BWotW on Monday mornings to give folks time to find a book to read. You cannot begin reading until Wednesday mornings 12:01 a.m. your time.

Thanks for all of the above! It really cleared things up for me, plus gave me the answer to something I've always wondered about (search inside a book to find items). I think I'm ready to start 😆
Vicky wrote: "So what happens if there are no page numbers listed even after you go to All editions?"
The page number needs to be documented or confirmed somewhere. Possibly Amazon, Barnes and Noble, a library catalog, or WorldCat. There's probably another bookseller that specifies page number that I'm not thinking of right now.

Ha! Hadn't thought of that. Um, before you go to bed Thursday night? Since books have to be finished Tuesday night by 11:59 p.m., that would give captains about 48 hours to pull together a team Completion Post.
Thanks, lorii

If your fourth team member hasn't checked in by starting time (12:01 a.m.), I'll get you a replacement.

(We are Team Cairo with 3 members - I read for 2 letters already but have a book for 3rd letter as well which hasn't been read for by other 2 members yet)
Kira wrote: "Thank youu! And one more! If a team member had checked in but didn't post their completions can someone else use a book that fits?"
No. A team member can have one unplanned absence one without repercussions. When they miss a second week, they will eliminated from the team. In the case of an unplanned absence, a team member cannot read a second book.
Hopefully your teammate will post their Completion Post first thing in the morning.

Great! Thanks Lanelle! I will wait until the last minute and then go ahead with completions.
