This virus is so contagious. Had a outdoor birthday party with my brothers and sisters, and one brother got sick the next day and tested positive. Four others came down with symptoms within a few days, myself being one of them. Two days with this bug and I still feel like crap. All I can suggest, is to use a mask when possible. Seems the immunity I got from a booster in early December helped me when I got exposed back on Christmas, but has worn off since then. I hate this bug.

Jeremy Lichtman | 410 comments Oh man. Feel better Jot.

message 8: by Justin (new)

Justin Sewall | 1244 comments Sorry to hear that Jot! Get better my friend!

message 9: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1088 comments Oh Jot--so sorry that you have caught the virus. Are you able to get any of the antibody treatments? And--thank you for the warning re length of usefulness of the booster shot. --Wishing you a full and swift recovery.

Thanks for the well wishes all. No special treatments other than rest and a lot of fluids. Hoping to be mostly better tomorrow...knock...knock

message 11: by Tom (new)

Tom Olbert | 1445 comments I wish you a speedy recovery, Jot.

message 12: by Kalifer (new)

Kalifer Deil | 359 comments I got it a while back after my first booster but it only lasted 2 days. Fortunately, I got it within a couple of months of the booster so the booster was quite effective.
I suspect this is going to be like the flu and come back every year or so with a new variation. As the population of the World has gone up the World has "shrunk." This is nirvana for viruses. Unless they come up with an effective antiviral this cycle will continue to worsen. Our government response was miserable with a death toll of over a million. I hope we have learned something.

message 13: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1088 comments Agreed, Kalifer. The problems then include 1. if the vax/booster works well only for earlier variants (i.e., other than whatever the then-current multi variants may be), or barely works at all; 2. if protection/VE loses half (or so) of its strength after, e.g., 3 or 4 months but the booster/vax is given only 1 or 2 times/year. (This latter may clear down the Medicare/Social Security/SSI rolls and is also a great way to cultivate more variants, so may well be popular with governnments and, indeed, many citizens, in far too many nations, inc. US and UK.)

Sort of makes the case for space travel, doesn't it?

Hopefully we can come up with a better solution, because I'd rather not have to get multiple boosters each year. At least my fever broke and am feeling much better today. Thanks for all the well wishes.

message 17: by Kalifer (new)

Kalifer Deil | 359 comments Ahh, finally stop getting pages of HTML in red. Now can post the story.

So glad your fever broke and you're feeling better, Jot. Do take it easy, rest, don't push yourself. Glad you're doing better.

message 20: by Kalifer (new)

Kalifer Deil | 359 comments Mine is finally up after about 20 attempts. I seemed to be in a half logged in state. Changed my password then everything was fine.

Jot Russell | 1709 comments Mod
Thanks Paula. Feeling much better. Now let's see if I can get a story together

message 22: by Kalifer (new)

Kalifer Deil | 359 comments Hi Jot! Glad to see that you are back in the saddle. I know it's a bummer to get sick on a new job before you can can show them your genius.

The Covid virus seems to be going through similar stages that the Flu virus went through. It the 1918 flu epidemic it killed many millions of people but as time went on it killed fewer and fewer, It still kills many and it would have gotten me some years ago if not for my wife dumping me into a bathtub full of cold water.

Good to know the ice bath is a trick that really works, but even happy to know that I didn't have to do it. I prefer swimming in the tropical water of the Caribbean

Really struggled to form a story for this theme, but I did it...finally.

message 25: by Tom (new)

Tom Olbert | 1445 comments Well done, Jot. Interesting concept, and poetic style.

Thanks Tom. I felt it was a little wanting. Definitely not one of my better works.

Greg Krumrey (gkrumrey) | 327 comments Looks like I've run out of time. No story this month but I will vote and start earlier next month.

Kalifer Deil | 359 comments Retroactive abortion; the USSC wouldn't approve.

message 35: by Paula (last edited Jun 24, 2022 05:44PM) (new)

Paula | 1088 comments Just sent in my vote. Sorry not to have sent it sooner; between prepping for the heat wave and getting copies of my new book to the p.o. (Of Elegant Time: 22 Stories), I got swamped with stuff to do.
