What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

► UNSOLVED: One specific book > Old elementary to middle-grade Mystery novel. It has a tree (pine, I think) on the cover, and also some kind of vacation location (hotel or cabin, possibly) that maybe had an open window.

JoanOfSnark | 14 comments Published at least prior to 1988 and possibly much earlier). May have had the word “hidden” in the title. NOT Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew. A family member of mine read this book as a child and has been unable to find it again.

Who is the main character? Male or female? Age?

My family member doesn't remember any details about the protagonist; she read the book over thirty years ago, when she was in elementary school.

That fits the description quite closely, but unfortunately it isn't the same book. Thank you so much for looking though!

Rainbowheart | 28688 comments The Haunted Cabin Mystery?

The Haunted Cabin Mystery by Gertrude Chandler Warner

There's more than one cover.

I think that's actually a different book with a similar title (oddly similar, really). Thank you though.

There are different covers for this one, too.

Not the same one. But thanks!

Robert (ricroscupshigh) | 542 comments A pine tree might suggest one of Malcolm Saville's Lone Pine series starting with Mystery at Witchend.

Looking for books of his with "hidden" in the title, gives The Secret of the Hidden Pool, althougjh that is from a different series.

Capn | 3506 comments Any other details we can squeeze out of the relative, Halene?

A group or a family or a single kid? Gender? A dog? A lake with a dock or boathouse? Location (country or state)? Bear attack? Cougars? Mosquitoes or black flies? Foods eaten? Wildfire? :)

Even exclusion criteria ("not that book, because it didn't have..") can be helpful in narrowing it down! :)
