Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) | 1229 comments I'm on chapter 23. (view spoiler)

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments I can't wait to catch up with you:)))

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) | 1229 comments Chapter 31: (view spoiler)

Nirkatze | 21257 comments Yay! Glad we've got Elizabeth comments to look forward to!

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) | 1229 comments Not many comments I'm afraid as I go so quickly while listening and I'd started before this thread was up. I also just noticed that the thread also says book 6 instead of 7.

Nirkatze | 21257 comments I know exactly what you mean about listening--often for me, I listen when I'm doing something else and aren't really in a place to jot down thoughts, so I end up with much less.

And regarding book numbers, there was an initial snafoo where one of the books was skipped entire, and was fixed recently when we squeezed the prequel in, so that's probably where the off numbering comes from.

Nirkatze | 21257 comments Elizabeth--I bet you could ask in the "Please Adjust Our BR" thread if they can go ahead and make the other WoT BRs so you can comment on them early... I know I for one am 100% reading through to the end, and I bet Choko will too.

Nirkatze | 21257 comments Just finished Lord of Chaos! Planning on hopping in slowly and juggling soon. But before I do, I just wanted to comment on the COVERS! I love the ebook covers (there's two versions) for this book, and each are juicy with suggestions. I am going to make predictions.

Cover 2 (view spoiler)
Predictions (view spoiler)

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Those are pretty covers and great predictions! And I hope we get Cadsuene, because I am a sucker for a strong and bossy woman, who doesn't sweat the small stuff and knows what is important:))) I don't remember what Ajah she was, but for some reason I think of all the good ones as blues... Probably because of Siuan and Moiraine...

She's a Green! She had two Warders, I think. I am so excited! I really hope she shows up. I've been waiting ever since we read New Spring. I was so sad when she wasn't in book 6.

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments I totally have a crush on that woman! She is so together! Not fake in control like most of the Aes Sedai, but for real! I can't wait either:)))

message 15: by Nirkatze (last edited Jun 04, 2022 09:30AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Nirkatze | 21257 comments SO true! And I love how she once got taught a lesson by a wilder--so she actually has respect for non-Aes Sedai channelers instead of just arrogance. I'd love to see her paddle Elayne & Nynaeve. And Rand.

Nirkatze | 21257 comments SO I started! I needed something relaxing and fun to balance out Malazan and the local book club reads I'm trying to burn through right now. What is my life coming to when WoT is my "light" read?

Prologue--lots to chew on, as usual! Though I'm getting a very Polka vibe here--what is it, two steps forward and one step back? Most of these scenes are more "meanwhile, in other parts of the world during the last book's climax, just in case you wanted to know..." (view spoiler)

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments I am on the Prologue as well...

Elaida first. She is not Black Ajah, but she is one power hungry and prideful woman... Kind of a shame that she is such a bitch, because she is smart and strong, and if she just wasn't such a megalomaniac, she could have been an asset for the Light in the upcoming war...

The foretelling has to be about Egwene...

Nirkatze, I think you are absolutely right about Savannah and whichever of the Forsaken is giving her favor... I wish The Wiseones had killed her and had done with her!!!

Messana is showing her cards a bit... And yep, we suspected that about the old Amerlin, so it is nice to have it confirmed... Alviaren needs to die painfully!

The Forsaken are proving the theory from the Andrea Vernon books - you can count on the supervillains to always turn on each other:))) No trust whatsoever, and all of them jostling for the top spot...

You are not wrong about Niall. He was the most sane of all the White Cloaks. I am terrified about the new leadership and what that would mean for Morgues and her friends... He was at least somewhat patient and at times reasonable...

Gawine, you young and mislead man... I feel bad for him, but I am still disappointed in him and his Younglings, for going with Elaida instead of with Siuan Sanche...

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Up to Ch. 2... There isn't much trust between everyone in Rand's camp either... I don't like the reactions of the tinker boy - he just reacts out of sink with things... I like how the Aiel are making the Two Rivers folk flush all the time:)))

I feel terrible for the 151 Maidens of the Spear that died for him...

I also don't understand how Rand can't seem to accept that the real Aes Sedai can't use their power as a weapon against others! This is what the Forsaken mean by "they chain themselves as criminals" - the three oaths do not allow it... The old Aes Sedai didn't use the Oath Rod to bind themselves in this way, and now the Black Ajah are free of those oaths...

And Taim gave himself the title of The Leader... That is one horrible man!

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Up to Ch. 4... I love everything about this book so far, but I am not too found of Perrin's obsession with Fail and her safety... He knows she can take care of herself, why is he over-reacting like that? At least even he acknowledges that he is being a bit over the top, but he keeps on doing it.... Even when he reminds himself of the bigger picture.

Things seem to be getting chaotic and out of control in Rand's camp. It is making me very nervous...

I also wonder if the dude he chose, from the Asha'man, is going to turn on him, or if he will turn out to be a good choice for him...

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Through Ch. 9... (view spoiler)

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments I forgot, still Ch. 9 ... (view spoiler)

Whoo sorry I've been AWOL the past few days--but I'm back and reading again!

I agree on pretty much everything you said. It is a shame that Elaida is simply so self-centered and...typically Aes Sedai, believing that only she knows the right path. Otherwise she's a strong and intelligent woman with many talents... I wonder how she will be brought down? Looking forward to it.

Nice note on bringing in Andrea Vernon! So applicable!

With Gawyn--there's so many situations in these books where people get into fixes just because they aren't talking or listening to one another! Argh! I'm glad at least that he at least is listening to Egwene enough to walk a fine line--but how can he consonance what Elaida is doing? With any of it? Seriously!!

re: Chapter 2--Aram the Tinker gives me the same vibes as Masema the Prophet--someone who has taken their zeal with the cause so far that they will end up hurting it. Bad things coming for sure.

Really nice note about the "chained like criminals"--I didn't even think of that! But just because they can't use their power as a weapon (except against Darkspawn or in the defense of their own lives or lives of their warders), doesn't mean they can't bend the rules, like they do everything else. They can use it to beat someone to "educate" them, like Galina & co were doing with Rand... what they can do is bad enough. Though they won't be much use against Dreadlords when they can't strike first. And can you imagine what would happen if the Seanchan attacked a group of Aes Sedai? With the Seanchan aiming to capture rather than kill, the Aes Sedai would be hobbled.

Taim--(view spoiler)

re: Chapter 4--I'm enjoying the book too so far, but it's going slower than the other books, and I'm enjoying Perrin's chapters less than the others. Same thing--his whole relationship with Faile does not seem healthy. And apparently people think of him as the perfect husband???? No, thank you! I wouldn't want to date any of the people in the book so far... At least as far as "over the top" goes--both Perrin and Faile are guilty of that. They deserve each other.

re: Asha'man dude--Dashiva, I think? (view spoiler)

Nirkatze | 21257 comments Choko wrote: "Through Ch. 9... "

Mogehedian--this bit kind of confused me. We already had this happen at the end of the previous book. Why are we back in time again? I'm getting confused on the back-and-forth in the timeline. I keep thinking of Polka--two steps forward one step back. And how much of this is Jordan "filling in" more information from what happened in book 6's epilogue, and how much is the time delay from news getting from place to place? (view spoiler)

re: Aiel--so true about rumors in today's climate... >.<

re: Nicola--I do remember her trying something similar with Nynaeve and Elayne, but I don't remember how it turned out... and (view spoiler)

Nirkatze | 21257 comments Chapter 11 Aes Sedai v. Wise Ones--The Aes Sedai tradition of setting oneself penance reminds me a lot of ji'e'toh among the Aiel. They have a lot more in common than they think.

Loving all the politicking with Egwene.

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Re: Ch. 13... Aviendah's point of view is awesome! And the questions of the Sea Folk were hilarious! However, I hate how they are having their way with our girls. The Sea Folk are like sharks and our girls like guppies ready to be lunch .. I don't like that!

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Ch. 14... What is that woman Darkfried doing in Abudar? And that White Cloak is obviously a servant of the Dark One!
Glad the kid is winning races. Mat just got a ring which might be emblematic for his future:)

Nirkatze | 21257 comments Choko wrote: "In Ch. 12... Lan!!!..."

Ugh so true--(view spoiler)

re: Chapter 13--still so true! I don't think our girls are going to get a good bargain out of the Sea Folk--but it's cool to see their culture! Seems they're even bigger on bargaining than... crap, wasn't there a culture that held bargaining sacred? Or am I mixing my books now...

re: Chapter 14 (view spoiler)

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments I figured it was Bors, and I remembered the chick from the barn right away. With as many characters as there are in this series, it is awesome that we can recall those random people from different books:))) And, I don't know about the main questionnaire, but he is truly evil for real!!!

Bow chika wow wow! I feel kinda bad for Elayne though--she's been pining the longest and hasn't seen Rand in ages...

Nirkatze | 21257 comments Chapter 31! (view spoiler)

Chapter 32 (view spoiler)

Chapter 33--I'm so glad Rand has Min around!

Chapter 34 (view spoiler)

Chapter 35 (view spoiler)

And finished. Don't remember which chapters specifically... (view spoiler)

I finish one, and I want to pick up the next! Got three books to read before doing so though. Even though this definitely feels like very little movement and lots of loose ends, I'm still enjoying the story.

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Nirkatze, I agree with everything you said! I know not much has happened, but we had some funny and a bit cringy moments with Mat and the cougar, although at the end he stated his problem was that she was doing the chasing, while he wanted to do it himself, and next time he hopes she would let him do so... Still, at times it felt stalkery and I felt a bit bad for him, though I see what the girls meant by saying he is getting some of his own medicine... He also made a real friend who is a girl - Brigitta! And it was hilarious to see him all excited that he could love a woman without wanting to sleep with her:)))

Speaking of Brigitta, her getting drunk and Elaine getting intoxicated from the bond was hilarious!

I have a theory, that the person who saved Rand (view spoiler)

I also had a very hard time not picking up the next book straight away! That was a cliffhanger if I have ever seen one... Let me know when you want to start the next one...

Oh, I forgot about Mat & Tylin! I'm pretty much in line with your thoughts--I felt really creeped out at first, but then with him saying "I'll miss you too" and meaning it at the end, and with everyone around him thinking he's getting a taste of his own medicine, I feel better... it really was just that she wasn't acting like he expected women to, not that he was actually uninterested or unwilling... and I love his relationship with Birgitte! (view spoiler)

I like your theory! We've not seen Logain since the end of the last book!

So right now... (view spoiler)

I've been having a very slow reading summer so far... >.< haven't had the energy to post as often as I used to. Have big backlog of thoughts! Next book is scheduled for 6/22 and I'm going to try to be in a reasonable range there... reading (physical books) Malazan, Wrath, and Cloud Cuckoo Land before that, so I'll probably be a bit late.

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) | 1229 comments Sorry I've disappeared for a bit. I've been working a lot of overtime at work due to so many people being out with COVID. Hey, at least my next paycheck will look nice. I've just started Winter's Heart.

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Elizabeth, it seems everyone who is working, is working like crazy, because everyone is short staffed!!! I have never seen the like! There are so many jobs open, it is insane! The population is growing, you would think there would be huge unemployment, but instead, there is need for employees... Just crazy!

Nirkatze | 21257 comments Hugs and support Elizabeth! I hope it calms down at work for you soon!

I've had opposite problem--my work is on hiatus right now until fall, so I'm suddenly finding myself insanely busy trying to cram all the house projects (and months of laundry piles) into these three months and not reading or on the computer as much as the rest of the year. Jacked up my audiobook numbers though.
