Looking for Pride and Prejudice type story set in more recent times

Hello, I've recently discovered audiobooks after a decade of being too busy to read with job/wife/kids/etc.

I have found many enjoyable books but am finding a distinct lack of books where romantic relationships are developed in a healthy, deep, and pure manner. I've always appreciated Austen's Pride & Prejudice because of the purity of Darcy & Elizabeth's progression from arrogance to sacrifice and commitment as they built their love. Contrasted with the younger sister's uncontrolled rush into scandal with the handsome but wicked soldier... it's quite compelling.

The books I've been reading aren't 'romance' novels per se but relationships are a reasonable topic woven in. Unfortunately these relationships involve meeting someone new, sleeping with them out of physical desire/boredom/intoxication, and maybe following up by getting to know them a little bit. It's just mechanical, repetitive, and usually described in such detail that an R or NC-17 rating would be required for a film version. It seems physical intimacy has been mistaken as the only type of intimate relationship to build.

Please understand, I'm not asking for books that are devoid of physical intimacy. Only that it is framed positively at the culmination of a relationship built on sacrifice, trust, love, and commitment... and framed negatively when it is based on selfishness, exploitation, impatience, unbridled desire, etc.

Are there any authors or books you could recommend for us, set in the modern era? My daughters are approaching an age where relationship building will be of interest and I want them to know how to be an Elizabeth and find their Darcy or Gilbert rather than a Whickam.

Sorry for the long post! Thank you in advance for anyone who bothered to read through and may have suggestions :)

Ayesha at Last is a book by Uzma Jalaluddin that is a modern take on Pride and Prejudice but also brings in Middle Eastern customs and family dynamics. I really enjoyed it and would recommend!

most people are going to recommend you vaguely pride and prejudice-like books. Im gonna tell you to read pride and prejudice and zombies.

I'm someone who's always on a quest to find clean, wholesome books without any spice mainly because it's a personal preference.
So, to anyone reading this NO OFFENCE! My favourite book of all time is 'BETTER THAN THE MOVIES'. Seriously, books don't get better than this. Then there's the inheritance games series which recently finished and if you're someone with a knack for riddles and puzzles like me then you'll adore it. There's also the selection series which is basically the bachelor but reversed and don't worry it's quite PG. As far as i rememeber it respects boundaries. Finally, we have tweet cute which is a really cute YA book I haven't finished. hopefully, you'll enjoy these amazing and cozy reads!

My story isn't Pride and Prejudice, but the mother is inspired by Mrs Bennett if that counts?!
The Minority Rule is a dystopian sci-fi set 100 years from now in a plausible world (although I hope it never becomes reality!)

I think the Spanish love deception can be a good one to read. I found the male lead to have the same qualities as Mr. Darcy does. But if you like closed door romances then you may not like it.

Every Summer After by Carley Fortune! :)

Read Vikram Seth’s “A Suitable Boy” — a more brilliant version of Pride and Prejudice set in 1950s India amid the promise and occasional peril of decolonisation.

I may have some authors!

There are many if I'm being honest, and some authors aren't what you describe but there are certain books that are! I can recommend Colleen Hoover, Taylor Jenkins Reid, and Sally Rooney! Some of their works dive into the toxicness of relationships, and how you need to leave it for yourself, there is also heartbreak, and romance, and a whole bunch of wholesomeness, and emotionally scarring books too, but please make sure to check the trigger warnings for yourself and your daughters!

There is also a book called The Song of Achilles, it is an LGBTQIA+ Representation Book, set in Ancient Greece during the Trojan War! It is very heartwarming, and it shows a lot of love, and hardships, and triumph!

I'm so sorry that I can't think of more books right now, but if I think of any, I promise you that I will come back here and send you some more!
