May 22 Read-a-Thon: Team Cedar Point
I just found out yesterday that I am going to be super busy every day this week. I'm going to be working from early AM to late into the night every day. I will try my best to get some audiobook time in when I can!
*Googling cedar point*Oh wow these are some big roller coasters!
Hi team!
Happy to be back, I recognise several names from earlier readathons :)
That sounds tough Amy - sending sympathy. My first book will be The Mermaid of Black Conch
which works for:Circle on the cover
Related to music
Illustrated cover
Red cover
Short book
As I”m not going to be able to access the spreadsheet much, I’m happy for anyone to add it where they think it fits best.

Hi team! I had to Google it too.
I'm currently reading Book of Night with more than 100 pages left, just have to work out what colour that cover is...

Thank you Joyce but in all actuality other than losing a lot of reading time, it's a really good thing that is happening. We bought a cabin next door to do weekly rentals. We gave ourselves a deadline of June 18th to open. However, we got a call from a local company that wants to rent it out for the entire summer, if they can have it starting May 31st. Financially we couldn't say no to that but it means a lot of work needs to get done in a week instead of a month. A lot of the work is painting furniture, cleaning and washing/folding bedding. Those are great times for audiobooks, if I can keep my brain calm enough to pay attention. That could take a lot of effort when I am thinking about all the things I still have to get done in such a short time!
My goal tonight is to look at all my audiobooks that I have pulled aside and see where they fit in the challenges. Pre-planning is going to be key to everything this week!
Good Morning. I still have about 50 pages left to read of The Obelisk Gate. My plan was to finish it yesterday evening but than I had to watch a video from people riding one of the roller coasters at cedar point and i immediately felt sick from watching and couldn't read anymore. 😆 (no, I was just too tired). So I can't count the book towards the read-a-thon but will add at least the pages read. Tonight I will start the first book for the challenge.
Good morning :)I’m currently reading A tale of Magic by Chris Colfer, will finish this weekend. It fits several prompts, among them it has a circle on the cover. (Sorry for no link, on app).
I have a childrens book up next.
Do we know what is meant by ‘illustrations on the cover’? Is it just something painted/drawn etc as opposed to a cover with photos?
Oh yeah and they play street football in the childrens book I have up next, if we consider that a game.
Johanne wrote: "And Ellie: couldnt one consider your book midnight blue? (I.e. Blue)"Yeah, I took a closer look and it is a dark blue. It also has lines and a circle.
I would consider illustration anything that is not a photo, collage or just the font. So yeah, drawings, painting or vector art.
Morning all!

Likewise. Your good self included. I hadn't heard of Cedar Point, either.
I see a nice prompt I can start off with. I'm starting the week on page 66 (of 416) of A Master of Djinn, which is one of this year's Hugo Best Novel nominees (Arcade #3), as well as fitting a couple of the other Arcade prompts.
Full disclosure, I've been in a bit of a reading slump lately (I'm back to writing instead of reading, albeit just for my own amusement), but I'm hoping this week will get me reading again!
I've got a few books in the pipeline that I'm going to aim for, but I won't stack the pipeline tab at this point.

I think I am starting with
A Song for a New Day by Sarah Pinsker. It has won the Nebula Award for best novel in 2019 and it is related to music.
I'm sure they've started putting more words on a page (smaller font, less white space) on newer hardbacks. I read for most the afternoon but only got through 100 pages.
Is anyone tackling a chunkster this week? I had a look at my planned TBR and my longest book is 4 pages short of 500... But I could read Twin Crowns which is meant to be light-hearted YA fantasy, so I might be able to read that reasonably quickly.
I’m 40% through Dragon Haven by Robin Hobb, thats 508 pages. I’m planning to finish that this week. I just have a couple others to finish first, so someone might beat me to it.
I’ve finished The Mermaid of Black Conch and entered it for a book with a red cover. Next will be Elvis and His Secret which is a children’s book with an illustrated cover. Other properties to be found out. Night, night all.
Morning all

I have one of those, too :-( A Desolation Called Peace is 496pg!
Normally the Hugo nominees (I try to read all the main nominees so I can vote for the winners) are full of Chunksters, but there don't seem to be as many this year.
I only managed 44 pages yesterday, as I was out and about, but I'll carry on with
today.
I've then popped a quick one in,
, which fits a lot of the Merry-Go Round options.
Then I might tackle
. YA, and quite a line-based cover picture so a couple of Rollercoasters there. Sadly, dark as it is, I think the cover is Green, not Black

I spent the day at the beach, got soaked trying to save my dog's frisbee from disappearing out to sea! But it was a fun afternoon. I finished Book of Night, put it down for blue cover for now.
I managed to get in 140 pages yesterday. River of Teeth - 50 pages of audio (1.75 hours)
The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook - 90 pages e-book (I had 240 pages left of this book that I had started prior to the readathon)
I got done work a little early today due to some nasty thunder and lightning passing through the area. Hopefully that means I can finish at least one of the two books I was working on yesterday, if not both. *fingers crossed*.
I had a bit of an eventful day involving taking a ligament-tearing footballer to hospital and attending a house viewing in his place. Fortunately I was obliged to have a quiet evening while babysitting my granddaughter which meant I finished Elvis and His Secret. I’ll probably pencil it in as a children’s book.Next I have Detransition, Baby which has a decidedly pink cover
but is it also a beach read? I’m none too sure what that term means.
Sounds like a fun day, Ellie (but hope you didn't have too far home all wet).I finished A Tale of Magic... and put it down for fast-paced book. It fits several other prompts, and I had thought to put it down for circle on the cover, but the one with fewest possibilities of our planned books, was fast-paced. I guess we can move the books around till we have finished an attraction, if needed?
Goodnight everyone! I'm off to bed in a bit :)
I just saw, the spreadsheet doesn't count the x'es in all the lines, that was why fast-paces said zero. Maybe someone with spreadsheet skills could look at it and figure out if A Tale of Magic should be moved. Feel free to move it around, I'm off to bed (it's past midnight here).
Goodnight.

I don't usually read what I would consider beach reads on the beach, so I see I contradict myself here :)

The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook : That's a brillant title! You want to know what it's about.

It really is a great title!
First reading weekend is over here. I'm reading The Inimitable Jeeves and Effi Briest. I will finish the first today, the other one will take me a few more days. I think the next three days will be my main reading days. The children are in kindergarten and although I have a lot to do, I'm at least alone at home and so I'm sure I'll always find some time to read.
Johanne wrote: "I just saw, the spreadsheet doesn't count the x'es in all the lines, that was why fast-paces said zero. I just finished the last pages of A Song for a New Day by Sarah Pinsker. I put it under a book related to music because it looked like we had few choices there.
Good morning team!I've shuffled the completed books on the plans tab over to the right of the sheet, if anyone is wondering where their books disappeared to.
Good morning!I'm heading to work later today, for the first time in 6 weeks.
I was run over by a car and fractured my knee cap 6 weeks ago ... But now I am getting slowly back to normal. Starting work with my favourite activity: My two kids' book clubs :)
I read Ali Hazelwood's Under One Roof this afternoon. But of a silly premise but was an enjoyable romance. I've put it down for beach read for now.We have earned two hot dog stands so at least our guests won't go hungry waiting for us to finish building those rides.

Ouch. Here's hoping for a continuing speedy recovery!
Ellie wrote: "We have earned two hot dog stands so at least our guests won't go hungry waiting for us to finish building those rides."
Good job!
I'm still working through A Master of Djinn, but as I feel like I've been letting the side down, I've read a quick one today, Message in the Mantel, and popped it in for <250 pages (Merry-Go-Round #3). If anyone else is working on that, it can move up to animal in the story, or equally be moved over to Rollercoaster #3 (Mystery or Thriller).
Back to AMOD now.
Then, I have managed to find this one. It's longer than I'd hoped, but I may be able to get it done. Swimsuit
But if anyone else can find another option for the last Splash Pad one, that would be great.

I had hoped to get one or two books done during the storms last night but what actually happened was, I fell asleep. Oops. I know I am not being much help with the challenges. Sorry about that!EDIT: I just checked my kindle to see how "bad" my reading actually was last night.....22 pages. I guess that is better than the 10 I thought I had read, but still. UGH.
No worries Amy, I've had plenty of readathons where I've felt like I wasn't reading enough, but as long as we're having fun, that's what counts.
I was planning on reading The Legacy of Molly Southbourne next as it's short and has a mostly black cover. After that I can either do a long book or try Beach Read for swimsuit which I just discovered on my Kindle.
I finished my first book The Inimitable Jeeves and put it under illustrated cover for our Ferris Wheel.
Ira wrote: "I am reading

Wonderful! Thank you.
for the swimsuit one. I should be finished with it today."Wonderful! Thank you.
I got stranded from my print book this morning so I’ve also started The Quiet Death of Thomas Quaid, a detective novel set in 1958.
Hi everyoneYesterday I finished En for holdet: Street vs. Elite (One for the team) and put it down for "game is played": They play football and street football.
I won't get much read today, I am really tired from starting work (even though it's fewer hours) and I'm going to a birthday dinner tonight.
Happy reading all!
I can't believe it but I finally finished a book! River of Teeth was only 114 pages but it draaaaaaagged on audio. Great premise, the US adopts hippo farming as a viable food source during a food shortage, a bunch of hippos break free and go feral and this cast of criminals is hired by the government to round up the hippos. I had high hopes but in the end, it was a flop. Maybe if the author had written this out as a true novel they would have had time to develop the characters and the storylines better. Anyway, I put it in as a Hugo Nominee. Today is laundry and painting, perfect opportunities for audiobooks. I have The People That Time Forgot ready to go on audio. I will look at the spreadsheet and see what we need before I decide what to slot in after that. Wish me luck reading more than 20 pages of my physical book tonight. I only have 100 pages left!
