James | 2 comments Hi guys,
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I borrowed this book from the library about 2002, I was 9 and was more enticed by the cover than the title or synopsis.
Below is everything I remember about it.
The book's main character comes from a fishing town when the fish start washing up dead on the shore.
The town then sends him looking for the 4 elemental spirits (manifestation of the elements?).
My memory is a little patchy after that.
The MC meets the female MC living on an island with her grandfather.
The grandfather has a library to write town his thoughts so his, paraphrasing here, brain does not become full.
I also remember that the grandfather uses bird droppings to erase written mistakes. I think he refers to it as the white substance birds leave behind on rocks.
The main character finds the fire elemental spirit under a mountain where the dwarves live.
The final thing I remember is that the cover has the MC standing before the 4 spirits. For anyone who knows the game Golden Sun, I always thought the character looked like Isaac.

Thanks for reading through this, any help at all will be greatly appreciated.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments James, do you remember if this was part of a series?

Time period/location story takes place?

Do you remember the villains?

James | 2 comments Sorry for the slow reply.

I don't believe it was part of a series, I remember a sense of resolution at the end. Everyone returned to where they had come from.
As for setting, I think it was that kind of generic medieval setting that fantasy novels use, but I can't say for certain.
I also don't remember particular villains, just that the elements being out of whack was resulting in turmoil.

I apologise for the vague answers, but thank you for trying to help.
