In this book a boy and a girl are exploring outside near a stream. The girl's gloves get wet so she runs home to get new ones; when she returns, she finds the boy face down in the water.

I believe this book was written with the intention of helping children cope with death? I don't remember anything about it beyond what I described above. It may have been illustrated?

read this book in the early 2000's, likely 2003-2007.
