Dan tells Tracy that she’s making this case personal to her own circumstances. Was she?

She did make it personal. It is Tracy's nature to put herself in cases that make her think of her sister.

He was right but for the wrong association. I think many of the cases detectives get touch some personal nerve. Here she identified with Andrea because she lost her family like Tracy had. But none of this seems to do more than make her more doggedly determined to solve the crime.

I feel like for Tracy - she works better when she makes them personal and can empathize with the victim and/or family. Just the type of person she is.
