When the body was discovered in a crab pot, did you speculate at all as to the type of person who might have put her there? What did you think the likelihood might have been for the body to ever be found? Was Kurt Schill ever a suspect in your mind?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3501 comments At first, I thought that the body drifted with the tide and lodged in the crab pot. The crabs in the Washington area are the bigger Dungeness crabs, which require larger crab doors on the pots. When they said they put the body in the pot, it sounded like a gang hit to me. I thought they used the crab pot instead of cement.

I was suspicious of Kurt. It was apparent that he was up to no good. I thought that whoever used the pot figured the pots were abandoned. They expected the fish to eat the body and never be found.

Susan (cruelshoes) | 158 comments I never thought Kurt was a suspect. I do believe the killer thought the body would never be found.

It never crossed my mind that Kurt had anything to do with the body in the crab pot but I wondered if he was responsible for something else.

Lots of theories crossed my mind in that moment and one of them was also mob related. But they normally use cement blocks so the crab pot was confusing. I thought those pots were smaller (they are in the East) so thank you Sharon for that info.

Robin (robinmy) | 2466 comments Kurt never made it to my suspect list. I figured he was just unlucky.

I think the killer thought those crab pots were abandoned when he put the body inside. He figured the crabs would get rid of the evidence.

~Melissa~ | 429 comments I never thought of Kurt as a suspect. He seemed pretty freaked when he figured out what he pulled up.
Seeing Jonetta's post - I have no idea what a crab pot looks like ...being a midwesterner, lol. So had no clue whether or not a body would fit.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3501 comments It looks like I'm the only person who was suspicious of Kurt.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 9309 comments Mod
I didn’t because he found the body and reported it.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3501 comments It isn't uncommon for the murderer to report finding the body. I'll admit that it is usually when the murder involved a family member.

Yes, because there’s normally a reason why he or she has to. I couldn’t see one for Kurt. He got into more trouble because he reported it.

I’m just explaining my own rationale. I agree it could have gone either way.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3501 comments I wasn't disagreeing. I was watching a Dateline and they said the first person the cops look at was the person who finds the body. I passed that on. It wasn't on my mind when I was reading the book. 😄

You’re a Dateline fan, too?!? I’m obsessed.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3501 comments Oh yes. Dateline, 20/20, or any other phone show of that ilk.

I don't know where "phone" came from. It is supposed to say show. I can't edit on my phone.
